We’re looking at Canaries for March. Family of five, including children aged: 6, 4 and 5 months. Looking for a reasonably priced hotel. Only requirements are heated pools, evening entertainment and hotel not having a problem with cockroaches. We’re not looking for anything plush but would like a nice hotel. Any recommendations?

GF Isabel in Costa Adeje.

HappierTimesAhead · 18/08/2024 08:49

Watching with interest. The Gran Oasis Resort in Tenerife looks lovely though- anyone been?

FinallyHere · 18/08/2024 08:52

They may be a bit young yet to get real advantage from club La Santa but bear it in mind in a few years.

Or if you want to enjoy your holiday too.

YellowphantGrey · 18/08/2024 09:48

GF Isabel, Iberostar Bouganville Playa, GF Victoria and Sunwing Fanabe all in Costa Adeje Tenerife.

We've been going there at some point since 2010 and this is the first year we haven't. Even went in 2020.

Gloria Palace Amadores, Gran Canaria. Book direct for the best deal. Huge rooms, a Thelasso centre, amazing views. A lovely clifftop promenade between Puerto Rico and Amadore, sandy beaches and amenities at both.

I can't give you a review yet, as we've booked here for December, so haven't been yet. The tripadvisor reviews are very good though.

We went to Paradise Park in Tenerife for 2 weeks over Christmas and New Year and we really enjoyed it.

We were 2 adults though, no kids so couldn't comment on kids aspect.

CeeJay81 · 18/08/2024 13:01

@BG2015 that's good to hear. Our kids are 15 and 10, So hoping to get some time at the roof top adult pool.

rookiemere · 18/08/2024 13:07

Seaside Los Jameos in Lanzarote was very nice, good food, heated pool, free spa for the adults and semi decent entertainment.

Rainbows2018 · 18/08/2024 13:08

Thanks everyone.

@tanstaafl we have looked here as it gets great reviews, just looked a little dated?

@YellowphantGrey do you prefer Sunwing or Isabel?

@BG2015 this looks lovely. What’s Los Christianios like?

Los Cristianos is just your typical holiday type resort. We walked along the front and into Playa De Las Americas which takes about 40 minutes and a pleasant walk.

My review on Tripadvisor is titled 'Decent Hotel' couples Dec 2023.

We spent all day on the rooftop adults only area which has amazing views.

blacksheep2014 · 18/08/2024 13:59

H10 Tyndia, jandia in fuerteventura would be my best recommendation, swiftly followed by any of the Barcelo hotels

Singleandproud · 18/08/2024 14:05

We love the Royal suite apartments in Los Gigantes, each room has a huge balcony and a great view (take a blow up paddling pool with you), kitchenette in each room and reasonably priced shop + buffet restaurant and fine dining. Large supermarket nearby to top up on essentials if you want. It has a small tots pool and then a larger one below. It's quite a small intimate place in that it didn't feel super busy and people were generally quite quiet. And the evening entertainment was great for children.

The hotel itself is up the hill from the main town so not noisy. Town has a lovely black sand beach with good snorkeling and large marina where there are lots of boat trips or paddle board/kayak hire. Excursions from the hotel to main Tenerife venues or a main bus depot nearby

We booked through TUI and although it's not AI you just charge drinks and ice creams etc to the room and pay at the end.

The adult pools in Tenerife are usually 18 and over and may not let the children stay in the main pool without an adult near to watch them.

They obviously have lifeguards but they will ask unsupervised children where parents are if they don't see them with adults

I'd pick the Sunwing but both are lovely hotels. We tend to go to the Hovima la Pinta the most as it's better located for us.

We prefer fanabe beach so tend to stick around that area

We have stayed at paradise park in Tenerife a couple of times as a family and it has been really good. Nice rooms, main pool is quite busy but there is a second pool area which is lovely too. Food usually good but there are lots of places out and about if you fancy a change. There is a shuttle bus down to los Cristianos beach but it is also a nice wander down. There’s a supermarket round the corner as well.

I know its adults only. My 10 year old dd will go to kids club. I doubt they'd care about my 15 year old ds being alone in the pool.

Sorry, I was only saying 😦

I love the GF victoria in Costa adeje

CurlewKate · 18/08/2024 16:06

I was just going to recommend our favorite hotel in Lanzarote-only to discover that it's now adults only!

If you are planning on staying in the hotel and doing AI then the Hard Rock in Tenerife has brilliant kids clubs and entertainments, we've done that a couple of times. It is expensive but worth every penny.

Re cockroaches. They are all over the island. Never ever seen one in a hotel though. You do see them in bars and restaurants occasionally.

I carried one round in my bag that had got in after I left my bag on a restaurant floor 😂

Ooh not relevant to current thread, but what is it ?

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 18/08/2024 16:27

Iberostar Bougainvillea Playa Tenerife and Iberostar selection playa blanca Lanzarote

mitogoshi · 18/08/2024 16:31

Be aware that the so called heated pools are still really cold, 26 degrees in Tenerife this year brrrrrr! Their websites say heated and when I complained they stated it would be around 19 otherwise (not the point!)

mitogoshi · 18/08/2024 16:33

Should add the heating situation is new, the hotel we stayed at had no mention of really cold pools until a month before we travelled
