Year 11 holiday options

Help

DS1 is entering year 11 and we are trying to think about holidays.

We've been away this summer so October half term is probably too soon.

Obviously, I want to avoid revision time.

Also, I'm annoyed as we have family weddings in early July so can't take advantage of cheap July holidays.

Options are

  • February half term. This is also my 50th birthday and would love to go to New York but don't know whether the weather will be too grim.
  • A week in Easter Holidays somewhere relaxing.
  • Give up on the idea and go away in August with everyone else.

DS is a good student, predicted good grades and a consistent worker so I don't envisage any last minute panic, but don't want to take him away if that will make things more stressful.

His mocks are in November and January.

I would go skiing in the February half term. Stay somewhere with nice pools and food also.
skiing holiday are such that the lifts generally close around 4pm. So if he wanted to he could ski 9am-3pm, head back to hotel for a relax and snacks and study an hour or so. Then go for a swim around 6pm before dinner.

For a proper week away I would go February. Friends did Rome and had T-shirt weather, others went to Tenerife for some sunshine.

We went away over the actual Easter weekend, Thursday - Monday on a city break to Prague to give DD a break and a bit of relaxation before being chained to the desk.

Apparently we have to wait until 30th June, just in case there are resits etc (is this actually a thing?). The wedding is 6th July and we have another the following Saturday so it bollockses up royally!

Wednesday 25th June 2025 is the second contingency day, so this is the last day candidates need to be available.

Its not resuts - but incase an exam has to be moved. I don't think it's even been used as it would have to be national level disruption - but not worth the risk of not being available if need be!

My dd1 is also going into Y11 and we normally go away over Easter. She has said no way for this year, so as I'm a teacher and have a younger dd2, we have had to book August instead (also my 50th next year like you OP).

I think her mocks will be in November and February and the MFL exams start in April (speaking part). So she didn't want to be away from home then.

That's good to know @Meredusoleil, although I was actually contemplating a city break to Berlin to double up as revision!
