“Ethical” Holiday 2025

Long back from my holiday this year, already thinking about 2025 as I like to book early, but all the protests this summer in certain holiday destinations have got me thinking. I was going to book Spain (Seville or San Sebastian) and Dubrovnik outside main season. I was going to stay in an airbnb like we always do as it’s cheaper than paying for 3 hotel rooms (older kids) and we can do a mix of self catering and eating out to keep the cost down.
Are you thinking of changing your holiday-habits now? Any ideas for a more “ethical holiday destination” which is not expensive?

I actively avoid airbnbs now for ethical reasons.

We take the train or ferry wherever possible now. You can get ferries to Spain and the Netherlands, or the Eurostar to acquire a few places now. It takes longer but it's a bit of an adventure, especially if you take a sleeper train.

I will still book self catering accommodation because DS and I are mainly vegan and it is easier to have the option to eat in.

We're looking at euro tunnel and driving through Belgium and Luxembourg to Germany.

I only book accommodation that was built specifically for holidays so I'm not taking what could be somebody's home.
