Crete - difference between Chania and Heraklion area?

I want nice beaches, restaurants etc, but not interested in nightlife/clubs.
Which one do I want?

I’d go for Chania.

Dh & I liked both areas but Chania was my favourite, it’s more chilled & generally quieter but still has that nice buzzy atmosphere in the evenings when you’re strolling around, especially around the waterfront. Lots of great places to eat, some nice bars but definitely not a party town.

Chania every time - a lot more attractive architecturally!

Heraklion airport is grim , so I always go to the Chania end now.
