Flight at 0810 and was hoping about 2 hours before ok? But have had an email saying 3!! No bags to drop!

I flew in June and security was fine. Bag drop was bad, so long! But summer holidays now of course I'd go with the guidance you've received rather than risk it!

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 07/08/2024 07:01

Flew out of there early yesterday. They are short staffed and we had the same email but got through quickly and had 5 bags to check in. No delays on our flight either.

MillyMollyMandHey · 07/08/2024 07:02

It’s not that bad, the queues can be long at peak times.

Personally, fast track is worth it to walk right up.

Shylo · 07/08/2024 07:03

Stansted is always busy - pay for fastrack, worth it every time !

Wincher · 07/08/2024 07:14

I flew from stansted on Saturday morning which I thought would be a busy time. I also had the three hours email, but I arrived 2 hours before as I only had hand luggage. Bag drop queues looked bad but I walked straight through security, absolutely no queue at all!

Cool thanks for replies

We always pay for fast-track security outbound,& f-t passport control inbound.

It's well worth the £10 p.p.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 07/08/2024 17:39

It is completely unpredictable - 90% of the time you get through security no problem. Occasionally there is a staffing issue, and they don't manage that well, and everything piles up. Then next time you pay for fast track, and there are more people waiting for fast track than the regular screening. Hard to get it right!

samarrange · 07/08/2024 17:53

I always pay for Fast Track at Stansted. This also guarantees that the regular security queue will be tiny. But if I don't pay, it will be horrific. #SodsLaw

(Of course, the best policy is to fly from Southend.)

Edited

My very first proper holiday started with a flight from Southend.
The 'plane was parked on the grass.
Didn't know the airport was still there !

Were those the days of the planes that you could put your car in, so your French touring holiday could start halfway down the country? Marvellous stuff.

These days it's mostly Easyjet. Ryanair comes and goes. It's like if your Mum and Dad decided to run an airport. And there's a fast-ish train to Liverpool Street every half hour, from right outside the terminal. I always have a big grin on my face when I go through there.

TangerineSloth · 07/08/2024 19:06

Also had 3 hour / staff shortages email but went through in about 10 minutes last Wednesday lunchtime, couldn't see any closed security lanes

AngelsWithSilverWings · 07/08/2024 19:07

We went through really quickly when we flew on a Friday afternoon in mid July. Bag drop was completely clear and security took 10 mins.

Mum & Dad didn't do forrin with their filthy habits & disgusting food. They went forrin once, & didn't think much of Jersey.

Well, a lot of the place names are suspiciously French-looking! 😂

If it says 3, then do 3

Justrolledmyeyesoutloud · 07/08/2024 20:26

Was there last week and went through security in half an hour - 7am flight we got there at 5am

Theraffarian · 07/08/2024 20:55

Took us well over an hour a few weeks ago , other times I’ve sailed through , almost impossible to predict .

MegCleary · 09/08/2024 10:26

Was grand about 20 mins but hell to get food once past security

Flew out Monday last week. Hand luggage only, pulled over for a full bag search. Queue was short but I still needed about 2.5 hours.

mm81736 · 09/08/2024 10:55

Flew out of tere a couple of weeks ago and it was quick

mm81736 · 09/08/2024 10:56

...coming back in throug passport control was another matter.Massive queues and very aggressive staff screaming at people when the stupid scanners as usual did not work
