Do you think this sounds too expensive?

Organising a group trip with some friends. We all earn a similar amount, no kids yet. We all earn about £50k pa so not heaps but an ok amount.

I’ve been doing the planning. Found flights for £500 (direct long haul) and a week’s villa for £300 each.

So £800 for a week long haul in a posh villa. Most of the friend group is keen but one of the girls keeps saying this is hugely expensive for a holiday and how can we be comfortable spending that much?

We did self catering in Barbados, check eating out as it can be expensive depending on the area.

When are you going? Is it a reasonable price for the time of year?

You're looking at flights and a villa, this sounds reasonable but what about transfers/food/drink? Is it a villa with a pool and lovely rooms for everyone to have their own, or will some people share/couples on a sofa bed?

Even if she does decide to come along, I’d be worried about her finding everything “too expensive” while you’re out there. Dinners, activities, etc. It will get annoying and awkward quite quickly.

I assume adding in food and drink ot will be more like £1200 each or more?

Still decent value, I would actually wonder why it was so cheap - is it off season?. We went to France for 8 days earlier this month and by the time you added up travel (there and back plus a couple of internal train journies), hotels and money for eating and drinking out it came to about £800 or so each.

£800

i suspect you and i have a very different perspective on what is a “luxurious villa” OP

While £800 is good for flight and villa in Barbados, food (even if shopping and cooking at the villa) is extremely expensive, so your friend might not be too happy if the overall price gets bumped up even more. Make sure you do a complete budget, so there's not surprises for anyone, and you know you are all on the same page.

Perhaps ask your friend what her budget is, and ask her to do some research to find something within her budget.

That sounds like a better plan, I have to say I would expect a long haul holiday to be considerably more than £800 each though. We went to America in April and our flights alone were £730 each.
