Help me find somewhere lovely

Next year DH, DS and I all have big birthdays. We would like to stay some where in Europe where we can chill, have nice food, days out etc. The plan is DH amd I go for 3 weeks and DS and fiancé join us for 10 days.

We stayed in Bologna last year which was great for food, travel etc and we had a lovely air bnb apartment but no garden or pool. Iwe'd love somewhere a bit special and wonder if MNetters had any recommendations

I think it depends on how much you want to spend and when?

My friend spent £3,000 for a week on the most beautiful villa on the Algarve but that was June and not school holidays. The same villa is £5,000 plus over the school holidays.

You would be looking at around £10,000 minimum, given you want something special, I would think for three weeks.

There are some FABULOUS properties around but so expensive ( tens of thousands per week)

We want to go end June beginning of July so we will miss school holidays

We aren't fixed on where we go. So just wondered if MNers had some ideas

How much do you want to spend? Really key to making a suggestion as there are so many properties out there.

The poster above has suggested a mobile home holiday, very different to £10,000 on a villa.

I'm a big fan of the Greek islands - Kefalonia, Rhodes, Crete. You could even start in Athens for a couple of days and do a bit of island hopping, and they join you in one place.

What do you like to do when you're away? Self cater/hotel? Active things or more flopping on a sunbed with the odd day out in the car? Do you want to see ruins, cities, views, or all of the above?

We want to be able to have days round the pool, go out to bars and restaurants and sight see some days

I think you would be looking at an apartment with a shared pool at less than £2,000 per week rather than a villa, especially in sunny European cities ( for sightseeing) or seaside resorts.

I've just looked at a couple of places that we holiday in, and a villa would be upwards if £11,000 for 3 weeks. I was thinking outskirts of Malaga or Palma to fulfill your wish for sightseeing as well as bars and restaurants.

Other people might have some better suggestions.

We stayed at Hotel Lone in Rovinj Croatia last year for our big birthdays. £5k for two weeks for the two of us. June/July. Loads to see and do in the area.

Or White Blossom Aparthotel on Paros which had 2 bedrooms and I think would fit the budget. Ten mins walk from the ferry so a good base for a bit of Island hopping.

Another vote for Greece, Kefalonia is stunning.

Lobe is lovely isn't it! I've stayed there a few times.

However, not sure it will come in within £6,000 for three weeks for a OP and her DH, plus 10 days for DS and his fiance.

What is that £6k budget meant to cover?

• Accommodation for 21 nights presumably - but just for you and DH, or also DS+1 (i.e., are they chipping in)?
• Shopping?
• Meals out?
• Incidentals?
• Flights?

And at what period? It might get you a 2-bedroom apartment in May in quite a few places. It probably won't get you a villa with a pool in August anywhere well-known.
