Hi there, we are planning to go to Malaysia to Langkawi island with our ds. Does anyone know if it's ok for 6-8months old baby to have the jab? Also would be great to get some tips from someone who's been there with a baby. Anyone?

They don't give Hep A jabs to under 2s. We go regularly to the far east and dd didn't have it until she was 4. It is passed on through water, unwashed fruit and veg etc, so as long as you are sensible with hand washing etc she should be fine.

I am not sure about malaria though - are you going to an area where malaria tablets are necessary?

Tetanus and polio are v. important - is your ds up to date with routine immunisations? Your practice nurse should be able to give you all the info.

3littlefrogs - thanks. Well we are going to tha Langkawi island which is pretty much a holiday resort place so I guess malaria tablets are not necessary? Althoug Im not sure... They are not good for a baby though, are they? Any suggestions welcome as I don't know.

Your travel agent should be able to advise too. I know their are several very good websites that give travel immunisation/malaria information. We went to Cambodia last year, thats why we needed malaria tabs, but dcs are much older now.

Are you all booked? I got a fantastic dicount through an advert on MN last year - saved about 400 pounds.

Also - Kuoni are excellent.

zuzkah · 13/04/2008 12:25

Haven't book anything yet discount sounds great! We are dealing with dial a flight and trailfinders. Kuoni is a agency or a destination?

Kuoni is a travel agency - we don't travel with them as we organise our own flights etc, but they are very good for booking tours. I can't remember the company we got the offer through, but it was one of the MN membership discounts.

I am sure you will have great time.

this may help you re malaria. You may want to consider Hep B vaccination for the baby, mine had them at under 8 months. But see what the WHO recommend for Malaysia. Have fun!

Thanx for the link cameroonmama. I'll look in to it and speak to my HV.

3littlefrogs - I ll goggle the agency and see what they can do for us. Thanks and I hope we will have fun...first holiday as a family.
