Marking for interest. I'm only there for three days and staying in Sanur. Nusa Penida and Lembongan have been recommended. Work colleague said Ubud has a great vibe. Apparently Amed is great for snorkeling. I fancied the volcano hike too. Sadly we're restricted becuase of the short stay. Also do allow for traffic and poor roads if travelling across the island.

One last thing, I heard Gilis doesn't have a great atmosphere - a bit rough and too party. Not sure which island though, and just one opinion.

Was going to go to gili t, maybe for 2 nights, but unsure what to do, was going to stay in sanur when 1st arrived for 2 nights, then not sure if to head to nusa pendia, then up to gilis and then over to ubud then down to seminyak before coming home, or go the other way sanur to ubud gilis nusa and seminyak

we went to ubud first, stayed at the airport the first night and did a paid tour the first day en route up to ubud. I loved canggu, very laid back surfer vibes with nice hotels and restaurants. We stayed at como uma canggu which was so nice!!! consider that traffic is a nightmare, no motorways so it takes a long time to get anywhere.

Thank you

I found Seminyak to be a hole. Dirty and boring. Ubud is totally fab. Nusa Dua is gorgeous. Don't do the monkey forest, this little shits will bite you anywhere. Do a coffee tour.

Makes me remember when i went to Bali in the 90's. Ubud was so quiet. A few hotels, cafe Wayan by the fields.
And gili trawangan had about 10 little bamboo places and no roads or cars!
sigh

Ubud has changed lately, what I hear. You could do that in a daytrip from Sanur too. Sanur is the best base of departure, Kuta is very nightlify, the south peninsula more large hotelchains of the Marriottype.

Day trip suggestion from Sanur (though quite a ride but worth it, also for what you see along the route:) Batur volcano.

Ubud was crazy when I went four years ago, absolutely rammed and full of traffic. Still incredible but nowhere near quiet!
