Greek Island Recommendations

This would be for a couples break(me & DH). We have been to Crete & had a lovely holiday there but welcome any suggestions for other islands. Is Santorini worth a visit? Kefalonia looked beautiful in “ Captain Corelli’s Mandolin” but I wonder if it maybe got too popular after that film?

Santorini is ruined now. It's not like how it's used to be years ago, it's always so.. full now.
Would you consider Corfu ?
Its absolutely stunning. When would you be hoping to travel and what kind of holiday?

The film came out a while ago didn't it? Anyway there definitely weren't too many tourists and they don't even capitaise on the film on any way that I could see. I recommend as it's so beautiful.

Would you consider the mainland? Monemvasia is beautiful and perfect for a romantic break.

Santorini is absolutely beautiful. Visit April or October and it’s not over crowded at all and the weather is still good

Notimeforaname probably not travelling until 2027 (once DD15 is off our hands) & will consider B & B or self catering in an hotel or apartment. I also like the idea of a villa with pool. 7 or 10 days. Preferably flying from Newquay, Exeter or Bristol. Have heard that Corfu is lovely, away from Club 18 - 30 etc!

Koufinisi is beautiful.Also like Naxos, Spetse, and Hydra.Mykonos and Santorini are lovely but v crowded esp when cruise ships come in. Santorini was spoilt for us by wannabe influencers.

Just got back from Kassiopi in Corfu as recommended by lots of people on here. It was nice but too quiet for us if your not into hiring boats and spending days on deserted coves etc.

TBH it depends on what you want to do. Some islands like Crete, Rhodes etc are good if you want to visit archaeological sites.

We had a good holiday in Kefalos, Kos which wasn't so visiting sites based.

Our favourite island overall is Naxos but it's quite expensive to get to but not too expensive when you get there. It's a ferry hub so you can do day trips to other island like Santorini, Ios, Delos etc

My favourite island is Antiparos. Fly into Mykonos and get the ferry across.

I’m currently in Crete and it’s lovely, although very different from the Cyclades.

My favourite is Alonnisos. Fly to Skiathos and catch ferry. Sandy beaches. No crowds. Easy to get to different beaches via taxi or bus. Marine park. Old town up above the main port.

2nd favourite is Skopelos which is also accessible from Skiathos. The Mama Mia locations island!

Then there is Thassos - really hard to get to but worth it as the most northern Greek island so not as hot and incredibly green. The sea is incredible there.

Personally I didn’t like Corfu or Kefalonia.

My next Greek trip will be to Praga which is on the mainland opposite Corfu
