Too soon for a booster seat

My DS is 3 in June. He is about 98cms and 33lbs. He's still in a car seat at present but in his Gran's car he's in a booster seat (they are cheaper and he's rarely in her car). But since she's had it i've realised how much easier it is for him to get into and out of it and how much easier it is for me to fasten it.

The one she has is from 3 yo as a guide and according to Halfords is dependent more on weight and height than age.

Is this true? are they considerably less safe than 3 point fastening ones?

Thanks, sorry if this is somewhere else, i did look.

Weight is the most important safety factor He should be 15kg minimum which is around 33lb, for a booster with a highback. Up to 18kg (40lb) a harness is still safer and most stage 1 seats last up until then.

DD2 is also 3 in June and is 16kg and still in her isofix five point seat belt thing. She is tall too and on the top level for her seat so we have bought the highback booster so we are ready. In theory she could go into it now but I am waiting until she is at least 17kg or too tall for the straps in her current seat. It is tempting though as you are right it is so much easier , but I would wait if you can. What is the max weight for your current car seat?

I think the current seat is up to 4ish age can't remember weight.

Thank you both

they can go onto one with a back at about 15-18 kg.
