Has anyone flown from here recently? We've got an early morning weekend flight and keep seeing articles with 3 hour queues to get through security.

Is it that bad? Thanks

Just to show how hit and miss it is, my husband went through in 3 minutes this morning.

That's great to hear.

We're going to set off early and hope for the best.

Following with interest, we fly Sunday 7th July and I’m worrying. Looks like fast track passes for security have been suspended 🙃

I'll update on how it goes

Birmingham Airport is a total hell-hole and probably the worst airport in the UK. I have no idea how they get away with it. Epic queues, useless staff, and filthy.

It's an embarrassment when compared to the clean, modern, well-run airports we arrive into when flying out of Birmingham.

The management should be ashamed of themselves. It's also a very expensive airport when compared to other UK regional airports.

💯

We flew from BHX last summer and vowed never again. We did the twilight check in but I’m convinced if we hadn’t we wouldn’t have made the flight - the queues were just endless. We had enough time to eat a sandwich before boarding and that was it.

It wouldn’t be half as bad if the staff there weren’t all so rude and miserable. Horrible airport!

Stood in queue for nearly two hours on Monday the 10th. Everytime you turn a corner and think you are getting closer there is another queue to stand in.

Good to hear that, but sounds like others had serious problems there even yesterday.

The story seems to be the DfT having a change of heart over the new scanners (which Brum had) and so they’ve had to go back to the old rules and procedures, which for some reason they’ve not been able to do in a seamless manner.

Hopefully sorted out soon, fingers crossed for the OP.

Airport queues live as BHX boss speaks out - updates

Passengers claimed they were waiting in the cold for 'two hours' though yesterday airport bosses denied those wait times

@Angrymum22 that's appalling! Your DH shouldn't have been sent to queue up again if he had a fast track security pas. Honestly, the staff are so useless at the airport!

I queued up to get into the building. When I go in I asked where I should go to check in... I was in the wrong queue! Didn't need to queue into the building at all... just straight down a makeshift tunnel opposite the huge queue to get into the building (no signage. Looked like part of the building site!) and I was in the airport. Right by the lift to get up to security. So with a security pass you can go straight through...

Samsamsami · 12/06/2024 17:49

Evening all! Would anyone happen to know if you’re over your ‘1 hour fast track time’ they’ll let you through?

doggybootcamp · 12/06/2024 18:03

I flew during half term and they came along the (huge) queues calling out flight times and if your flight was in the window being called they took you out of the queue and fast tracked you through security etc. if they hadn't done this we would have missed our flight, the queue was trailing up and down the terminal just to get to security.

An update from this morning about 5.45am for anyone still looking - we went upstairs from the Jet2 check in and it was fine, maybe 30 mins queue, maybe not quite that. The woman in duty free said it was nice to have some customers as people have just been running through! Now we've got loads of time to kill.

CandiedPrincess · 18/06/2024 07:04

That's good. It's been really hit and miss recently. My colleague travels regularly for work and recently the best has been an hour (no hold luggage) the worst has been almost three!

SierraSapphire · 18/06/2024 07:15

Yes we'd prepared for the three hours, but DD manifested the short queue apparently Grin. People were queuing outside so I'm still not sure whether the Jet2 stairs manage to bypass some of that - I think you can go up them whoever you fly with.

MyBrownEyedHandsomeBoy · 18/06/2024 07:22

We came back Saturday.
Did twilight case drop off the night before we flew, we arrived on the morning 2.5h before flight as we had fast track passes. The queue for security was outside and was zigzagging around it was a nightmare!
It still took us 1h to get through security (and that was with the fast passes), we saw people running up to the staff at half 5 saying they had a 6:30 flight so the staff were then ushering them through to jump the queue, then started shouting if anyone has a 6:30 flight please come forward!
Nightmare airport, we flew on the Thursday morning but my SIL flew Sunday morning and said it wasn't as bad

HoneyDragon · 18/06/2024 07:23

They’ve stopped fast track and are refunding those that have it. Ds flew out on Thursday and said everyone working there were doing a sterling job and that a lot of the queue was caused by people coming exceptionally early.

They are doing everything they can. Dh flies out of Birmingham tomorrow as well, hence discovering fast track is no longer operational. He has booked parking to allow for the requested 3 hours as Ds stated they are doing everything they can to ensure people get through and onto flights in good time.

StampOnTheGround · 18/06/2024 07:31

I don't think it's that predictable - I had a weekend late afternoon flight so got to the airport around 1:30pm and I've never got through security faster!

I have heard early mornings are the worst though, good luck and hopefully no queues!

ciaopizza · 18/06/2024 15:29

Is the queue for bag drop off or security? Or are there two queues? I'm flying late at the weekend with just a small bag. I have fast track but now wondering if that's worthless. Anyone know?
