Thinking of going to Pollensa area in Majorca in July with hubby and two kids (aged 8 and 6) has anyone ever been? Looking to hire a villa for a couple of weeks, any recommendations of where to stay, things to do any advice etc would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.

We went with James Villas but at May half term so probably not comparable prices... We have found a villa far better than a hotel - you can keep your own time, don't worry about annoying anyone else round the pool (!)and never have to fight for sunbeds! You can pick and chosse where you eat, it's no problem for the children to have a siesta in the afternoon and you can generally relax and not have to be sociable all the time!!

I would seriously consider only 7 days, especially as you haven't done a "hot" holiday before. I always think it's beter to go home wishing yo had more time than being desperate to go home because you have had enough!! GIven the temps at end of May when we have been there June / July will be V.hot. Even with a hire car you may well exhaust all the day trips within a reasonable distance of Puerto Pollensa in a week. Thanks for the advice willali that sounds good to me my husband thinks the same that a week would be enough especially in that type of heat, and if all went well we could go longer the next time. We also think the same about the pool that you can come and go as you please and don't have to stress about getting a sunlounger. I just wish we had booked the flights earlier as we would be travelling from Aberdeen they are not that cheap. Did you find there was a language barrier or can you speak Spanish?

RE Language - probably shamefully you do not need to speak Spanish at all to anyone everyone speaks at least passable English and if not (eg the Villa claening lady!) international sign language does the trick!! Having said that my 10 year old just bought a Spanish phrase book for kids with his pocket money as we are off to mainland Spain for half term and he says he wants to speak some Spanish while we are there!!

yes it is absolutely wonderful. we stayed in a villa with pool at the outskirts of the town and it was fantastic to be able to walk in to the cafe's and restaurants in the evenings...we had a phenomenally good holiday. much prefer the old town to the port...

we went with villa parade and the villa was superb.
