Haven site recommendations

Hi can people provide their experiences on haven sites for north wales sites.
We've never been before
We have a 4 year old who's not overly social so a quiet place would be better

So between Prestatyn, greenacres and hafan y mor please

Or any other sites that would not be too much travel from near Liverpool

Thanks all

Hafan Y Mor is unbeatable due to its location and very impressive range of activities and facilities, but it’s busy.
If you want something a bit more low key, look at Barmouth Bay although it’s not a Haven site. There isn't a bar or restaurant onsite but there are a couple of restaurants within walking distance of the park.

We went to Prestatyn 2 weeks ago with our almost 2 year old and really enjoyed it. Facilities were good and lots of activities plus direct paths down to the beach!

Is it busy during term time as well as school holidays do you know?

What was it like in terms of people? Quiet or busy? I'm trying to find the right balance 😂

Hafan y mor. We go every year and don't even leave the site. There's that much to do!
Busy in school holidays but not in term time.
My children love it and have been going every year for about 6 years now.

That's handy thank you, most likely we would be going during term time, my little one can't even handle how busy a park is during half term so defo wouldn't cope with a haven site etc

I'd recommend greenacres for you tbh. Hafan y mor is our go to and is fantastic but it is a large busy site. The indoor swimming complex is brill but if your child prefers it quieter, go for greenacres. Black rock sands beach is great too.

CeeJay81 · 11/05/2024 10:26

I am also not a fan of presthaven, the Seagulls are mental there. I wouldn't go between April and August when it's nesting season.

Haven't been to any but have heard lots of good things about Hafan y Mor. A friend went to Presthaven last summer and said it was awful (dirty shabby caravan, seagull poo everywhere, pool so busy they couldn't even book a time slot).
We have been to the New Quay one in West Wales which was lovely but might be a bit too far for you

In what way?

not just grubby…full on filth…busy….I’m no snob ….and I can swear like a trouper…..but there’s a time and place ….but the foul language around children was on a different scale ( in the pool, amusements, clubhouse) …..so busy….and loud….no peace….the seagulls are wild ….no way can you even sit down to eat an icecream…..the whole town itself is run down and dirty…..like I said grim

We have been to all 3 a number of times, but our favourite by a long way is Greenacres. The location is absolutely stunning, right on the enormous Black Rock Sands and surrounded by mountains. The site is spacious with plenty to do but doesn't feel too busy. Hafan y Mor is much bigger, with better facilities but extremely busy!! Although its location on the Llyn peninsula is lovely and there is lots of beautiful places to explore. Prestatyn would be my least favourite but if you're travelling along A55 it is by far the easiest to access! I'm sure you'll have a fab holiday at any, but for me it'd be 1) Greenacres, 2) Hafan y Mor, 3) Presthaven Sands

Thanks! Defo taking that off my list then! My hubby was leaning towards it just cause it's less of a drive but it sounds awful!

Hafan is big and right on the beach .. very busy.
Prestatyn is yuk.
Greenacres is absolutely lovely.
You can drive your car onto Black rock sands.
Porthmadog is gorgeous labour town
Ffestiniog railway there too.
Near loads of great places.

Moier · 11/05/2024 14:49

Harbour not labour 🙄

Prestatyn is dreadful and rough. Not been to Hafan but Greenacres was absolutely gorgeous when I went years ago.

While I am not going to disagree with what you've said about Presthaven Sands, I have to say I am baffled by your description of the whole town as run down and dirty. Do you actually mean to town of Prestatyn is run down and dirty? Or the village of Gronant where the Haven camp is located? I can't comment on Gronant so if that's were you mean I won't disagree, but unless things have dramatically changed in the past year, Prestatyn most certainly isn't run down and dirty, it has a really nice and thriving high street and lots of nice residential areas. Rhyl just down the road on the other hand....

Funf · 12/05/2024 14:01

Both sites are big, but Hafan is in a less commercial area with plenty to see and do nearby. Llanbedrog, Criccieth, Harlech, Barmouth, Ty Coco Inn, Porth Dinellen all very different but nice to visit, all much smaller than the towns near Presthaven.
Presthavan is nearer to bigger towns, Rhyl, Towyn etc These are your typical Bucket and spade Fish, Chips and Bingo Places. But other places are available, Denby, Rhos on Sea, Llandudno etc, some nice inland places to see.
I feel Prestatyn is nice small town, still has a high street, plenty of shops etc.
This link will show you a few of the places near by.

My other top tip, we managed to find a privately owned caravan on a haven site, it was excellent and great value.
Found it here

I feel a good holiday can be had at either, but you must venture out as some stunning places nearby.

Avoid Craig Tara like the plague. Place is nice but the people are like shameless characters

Sorry just seen you're looking at north wales - I'll wind my neck in
