Baby passport panic - please help!

Hi all

please don’t tell me how stupid I am for doing this…I already know.

my baby is 14 weeks old. We have booked a holiday for the 31st May, my partner was unexpectedly able to take time off work for that week so we booked. Although passports are supposed to come in 3 weeks I didn’t want to risk it so I have an appointment at the passport office tomorrow for a 1 week fast track service.

anyway once you finish your application it tells you what you need to bring. It says baby’s birth certificate which isn’t a problem and then your non UK passport if you have one, which I don’t. It doesn’t mention having to bring your own UK passport, however I thought to be on the safe side I would take it.

so getting to the point! I entered mine and my partners passport details from photos I had on my phone and I now can not find my own passport 🤦🏻‍♀️ it’s not a problem if they don’t ask for the physical passport and just check the system but I’m not panicking they will want to see it physically and I won’t have it! The office is an hour and a half from my house and I have paid £130.

had anyone used this service for their child’s first passport recently and did they ask for the physical passport?

thank you !

You’ll need your own passport for your holiday anyway. So surely it would be best to look for it now and take it tomorrow?

Have you looked in the handbag you used for your last trip?

Ye but I’ll have time to sort a new one if not. Honestly I’ve turned the house upside down, I just assumed it was in a file where I keep anything important but it’s not 🤦🏻‍♀️

When did you last have it?

How long does it take to replace a lost passport? I’m guessing it’s the same as a renewal.

We haven’t been on holiday for over a year but part of me thinks I took it somewhere for ID purposes when I had sent off for a new driving licence 🤦🏻‍♀️

The anxiety in me would order a new one asap.
If you've flipped the house and have no idea

Yes but if I order a new one today I have to cancel my old one making my appointment tomorrow for baby passport void! I’m not in so much of a panic if they don’t actually need to see the physical one

I did this but just on the standard application- I did the online application then couldn't find mine to post off. I just phoned them and reported mine as lost and got a replacement. It made no difference to my daughter's application at all.
Hope you get sorted!

Just take as many pieces of alternative ID for yourself as you can. Driving licence birth certificate etc. I don't think will make your appt void- they can just process it as though you didn't have one in the first place surely.

Yea if you don’t have one you have to take your birth certificate which at 34 I have no idea where that is and neither does my Mum 😂

I have other forms of ID but I imagine they’d be pretty strict about a passport

Thanks hopefully that will be the case and they just confirm it electronically!

Does it say they need to see your passport?

I suspect not, and they just need to see your baby and other docs such as birth certificate
