Couples holiday to Greece

CoffeeinGreexe · 24/04/2024 16:29

My husband and I want to go on holiday to Greece. Either Crete, Rhodes or Corfu, or alternatively any other suggestions. We are thinking a nice hotel with breakfast options included but for our other meals we want to eat out. Also thinking of hiring a car, so parking availability too. Any suggestions? We are in our early 30’s. Thanks 🙏

I’ve been to all three. All lovely but all very different.

Rhodes is arid and will be hot. Suggest you book a hotel close to Rhodes town. We stayed in iaxia not sure of the spelling and only ten mins in the car to Rhodes town. We stayed in a great hotel along the coast.

Crete very mountainous and winding roads which were hairpin! The capital was horrible and very industrial, not worth visiting. I didn’t really visit any of the resorts but it’s a beautiful island.

Corfu is more green and absolutely beautiful. Corfu town is very Italian due to the history and lots going on and a lovely place to eat out etc.

i would definitely go back to Rhodes and Corfu ….both stunning with lots see and do.
Crete i wouldn’t go back but I was unwell on that holiday to ended up in hospital, so really I my experience isn’t useful.

Early 30s with no kids? I’d do a few smaller islands - say fly to Mykonos - and make it to Santorini to fly back from.

Or - if you want one island - Crete. It’s large and has several nice areas - and different price points. West Crete - Elounda and Agios N ate great areas. Or East - Chania and Rethinmo. Avoid Malia as its full of kids who are done with school and celebrating.

Crete has a benefit of having many places you may also sightsee - caves, monasteries, ruins - if that is what you are into.

Rhodos - avoid west coast as it is permanently windy. Unless it’s kite surfing you are into. East coast has lots of different options. But - as a small(er) island it does not have much to see. It’s mostly a beach holiday. I’d avoid Lindos - overcrowded by British tourist and bad food.

Corfu is greener than many islands. Very popular with Brits as well. Medium on budget. I’d avoid Kavos as it’s a ‘party deatination’

I vote Corfu. It's so lush and green. Agni travel has little places for two people on the beach on the south-east coast. You can hire your own boat to get to tiny beaches with tavernas. Snorkelling is good. Corfu town is nice. And it's a great island to explore by car.

CoffeeinGreexe · 24/04/2024 20:26

@NeedToKnow101 am thinking more Corfu now. Can anyone drive these little boats? Is there training provided do you know? 🚤

Go island hopping through the Cyclades. Also in my 30s and we’ve had incredible holidays on these islands. Wouldn’t get get me to Rhodes or Corfu for anything!

So weird 🤣

I've been to Crete and Rhodes, I prefer Crete. For me the best resort is Georgioupoli half way between Rethymnon and Agios Nikolaos .

If you want to see the mountains I'd go on a coach trip as the roads are not the greatest

FestivalFun · 24/04/2024 21:32

Crete is one of my least favourite Greek islands but there is a lot to do there.

I don't think there's much training but they're really easy to drive(?)

Only thing is to get them back to base in time because early evening the sea becomes very choppy.

shivbo2014 · 24/04/2024 21:47

Skiathos, definitely, such a lovely island! Me and Dh went before the kids in our early 30s and had the best holiday!

TakeOnFlea · 24/04/2024 22:08

Definitely island hopping in the Cyclades.

DonnasShrugaleros · 24/04/2024 22:17

Corfu! We hired a boat last year, piss easy to drive and such good fun just being able to drop anchor and jump off for a swim whenever we fancied. Get them to show you how to dock though, we missed being able to dock at a small village to stop for a drink.

Stayed at Angsana in Benitsis which was nice, appealed to some of the insta crowd and I had a laugh watching them taking their stoopid photos. It has its own tiny beach, food was good, lots of parking and a short walk into the town after you get the shuttle bus to the bottom of the hill. Also stayed at Rodostamo but there's no beach and not much around it, kid free hotel though 😛

My partner and I are mid 30s with no kids, and we are going to Crete. We are staying at Amirandes resort. I really wanted to island hop and go to Mykonos, Naxos & Santorini too, but we decided to stick to Crete and do a day ferry trip to Santorini!

CoffeeinGreexe · 25/04/2024 06:41

@RichTea90 that sounds interesting. Im going to look into that! Would love to visit Santorini, just for the day would be nice. 👌 the hotel I was originally looking at was Mitsis Laguna Resort & Spa in Hersonissos . The hotel has really nice reviews but it’s all inclusive only. This bugs me because it’s a waste of money as we will be heading out a lot, especially if we have a car. 🚗 I then changed my mind to try and find a breakfast only hotel for us. Struggling to find anything though!

@DonnasShrugaleros wow this seems so fun! Just the thought of trying out something different seems great. Will definitely look into this. 🚤

We got our little boat from Kassiopi in Corfu. www.nissakiboatrental.com/gallery/north-corfu-nissaki-boat-rental/

Just saw you can also book day boat trips to lovely Paros, antiparos and Naxos from Corfu (although I thought they were far from there?)

OK time to get up for work!

UneTasse · 25/04/2024 07:12

Crete. There are nicer places than Hersonissos. Do you want beach or city? If I had a week there I might fly to Chania, have a couple of nights there - very pretty, great food etc, then drive to palaeochora, stay in a hotel by one of the beaches there & explore. Would be fairly inexpensive.

Rethymno is very pretty too.

Heraklion is the most fun, in terms of food and drink, with a lovely friendly late night restaurant-based nightlife and small clubs and bars, but the least pretty.

Big new resorty hotel called Anemos near Georgiopoli - the beach is across the road and beautiful.

The south coast is prettier than the north, and less developed.

NewYearTimeToChange · 25/04/2024 08:27

We loved the Tesoro Blue in Skala Kefalonia. Adult only hotel with some beautiful private suites and pools. Kefalonia is a beautiful island and small so if you hire a car you can see it a lot if it.

PizzaPastaWine · 25/04/2024 20:03

How about flying into Rhodes and taking the ferry to Symi? Its completely beautiful and feels like a more 'adult' destination.
