Two kids, one adults, two bedrooms -impossible?

Is this a possible thing? I want to take my 14 year old and 16 year old boys on a simple package holiday, self catering preferably, but it seems utterly impossible to book anywhere with two rooms, and I am not having us all in one room, that would not be a holiday.

Where do you want to go to?

Mumof1andacat · 20/04/2024 17:29

What about an apartment? Some will have 2 bedrooms others might have 2 beds in the bedroom and then a sofa bed so the boys could share the bedroom and you have the sofa bed or if the sofa bed makes two singles then you could have the bedroom.

surely you can get a 2 bed villa or apartment? Where are you wanting yo go?

Benjaminsniddlegrass · 20/04/2024 17:33

I never understand the need these days to go on a package holiday - particularly when so limiting. If you are looking at self catering anyway, just book flights and find your own accomodation and then you can have any kind of self catering accomodation you would like.

An aparthotel would work. Usually a separate bedroom or 2 plus sleeping on a sofabed in the living area.

Anywhere, preferably somewhere warm-ish and with lots to do either nearby or accessible by public transport. We would normally get a villa but I don't drive, DH can't come, and I just want everything sorted and to get the flight and accommodation all in one. Is that possible? I'm sure when I was a teen my friends and I stayed in apartments that were situated on resorts, but if I go to any package holiday site you have to say there is an adult in each room.

We’ve been to a few aparthotels with 2 bedrooms, Malama Hotel in Cyprus, Coral Bay Hotel in Cyprus, plus a couple in Minorca, but can’t remember their names.

I haven't been on a package holiday in 25 years which is why I am finding it so bemusing, but everything is stressful at the moment and I just want to find a holiday where I make one decision and pay for it and it is all sorted. If possible.

I am in exactly the same position as you OP and just called a holiday company this morning to ask the same thing. The companies 'family rooms' do actually have 2 separate bedrooms in- well with a sliding door with between the 2 sleeping areas. But on the website it says 'family room' . It's something to do with kids under 18 but being able to be in a room on their own in some counties I think. But it was a really useful call in terms of finding out the configuration etc.

I totally understand why you are doing a package as it's probably got the same reason I am. If you are the only adult there then you need everything to just be easy and straightforward as it's tough doing it all on your own.

TeenLifeMum · 20/04/2024 17:38

We just book 2 separate rooms and emailed the hotel to ask them to be next to each other. With free Wi-Fi in the hotel we message “breakfast at 9am so meet you outside at 8.50am” etc

modgepodge · 20/04/2024 17:39

I’ve found 2 bed apartments hard to fine a as package/on an AI resort. Self catering it will be easy enough but I’m not sure you’ll be able to book that as package., would probably be cheaper to book it separately anyway?

Caspianberg · 20/04/2024 17:40

You can book a family room that has two bedrooms. So it’s still 1 room for the 1 adult purpose but you have one hotel room door to living room, with bedroom off either side

theeyeofdoe · 20/04/2024 17:57

Just book two rooms, if you need to for booking purposes, just put one adult and one child in each room. Then the kids stay in one room and we stay in the other.

Just book two rooms, if you need to for booking purposes, just put one adult and one child in each room. Then the kids stay in one room and we stay in the other.

The problem with this is that if you are booking a package you end up paying for an adult that isn't even going.

Lots of hotels have 2 bed apartments, or rooms suitable for 4 with separated sleeping areas (usually sliding doors) for children but if you put in 1 adult and 2 children they automatically allocate you a double bed and a pull out bed in one room or double/twin beds with a sofa bed. This is because it's better value for the hotel.

Might be better to book flights and accommodation separately.
