Sending documents for passport renewal..

I’ve been asked for my marriage certificate as I’ve got married since my passport expired. It’s given me an address to send to, but there’s no form or anything to include.

I noticed the application reference is included in the address I’ve got to send so presumably they use this to match it to the correct application and then use the address on the application to send the very back?

If anyone has done this recently and can tell me how it works id really appreciate it, I can’t find any answers online and their chat has been off all day 🙄

When I applied for a first passport I just sent the documents in an envelope, like you say they match the ref number on the address with your application

Yes, just the documents in the envelope and the address they give you contains your reference. It says somewhere to not add anything else like a cover letter, just whatever documents they want.

I've just done DS's his old passport has been marked as received and it was the same just the reference as part of the address

I did it a few months ago and sent it with my old passport but as others have said there is a reference number on the address that they link to you. My passport and marriage cert arrived back in different envelopes so don’t panic if you open the new passport and it’s not in there!

Yes as you say it relates to the reference. Just done my littlest one's first passport last month. You will get a text/email update once they have received and logged it, although your Royal Mail tracked delivery will inform you sooner.

This time I included a note with his birth certificate kindly asking them not to bend it. Learnt the hard way from the first one

I've just renewed the kids passports and posted off their expired ones (individually) in an envelope using just the reference number. When you get to the point of paying they ask if you want docs returned by standard post (£0) or tracked (£5). My docs all came back very swiftly when I updated my passport after getting married.
