Dh is a --knob-- I mean snob!

We are on a very tight budget this year and should not really be having a holiday but because dh works so hard and never really relaxes unless he is away we have booked a 2 week holiday to cornwall.

We can't wait it sounds lovely and we really love famous five style british bucket and spade type of holidays. We are staying in a caravan near Padstow - all the reviews on the campside sound really positive, we are overlooking the bay it sounds bliss!

I was just surfing the net and found another review which made me chuckle. It said "When it says bucket and spade holiday read beer and bingo! This is a working class site at its best, I love a ciggy and beer with my missus and kids and you can really have a laugh here without some snobbish prigs looking down their noses at you!"

I started reading the review to dh and only got as far as the working class bit and he went a funny colour and said "right thats it you can cancel the bloody thing I'm not going there it will be full of people dressing themselves up to the nines to listen to a dodgy Bobby Davro impersonator!" He has stormed off upstairs in a right huff he wants me to cancel, there is NO way I am going to do that. The thing is in the whole 20 years we have been together I have booked every bloody holiday we have been on including a 1 year round the world trip and now he is moaning about how he can't trust me to do anything right!

Please tell me I'm not being unreasonable in wanting to chop off his balls and stick them in the moussaka?

I think, in this case, you really need to find a better campsite!

He shouldn't be moaning at you though, everyone makes mistakes after all and at least you foind out in time!

PeachesMcLean · 29/03/2008 00:00

LOL, don't ruin your moussaka. An open fire will be fine.

Come on, tell us the campsite

Rosbo · 29/03/2008 00:12

yes, tell us the campsite.

The campsite is Harlyn Sands. The other reviews are all very positive. I am not going to cancel we will lose too much money and I am looking forward to it! We only tend to use our accommodation as a base anyway, it is not as if I am expecting him to do the time warp or dance along to the Dambusters theme I think we shall be giving the fun entertainment a wide berth.

Anyhow he seems to have resigned himself to it now. Last night I was searching online for some breton and guernsey sweaters for ds as I expect it will a bit chilly in the evenings and they last forever if you buy big enough. Dh said "I don't why you are looking at them, ds will get his head kicked in if he wears them in the sandpit!" Snobknob!

Well I've not been there but you'll have a great time, I'm sure (if DH gets over himself ). As you say, use it as a base and steer clear of the entertainment. DS will love it anyway, looks like very good facilities for children.

Harlyn Bay is a really nice beach. If you just use the campsite as a base it will be fine. If you cancel now, you will find it very hard to find something else in Cornwall if you are looking for the school summer hols. Padstow is pretty 'upmarket' too, but will be very busy in the summer hols. You can catch the ferry across to Rock which is very posh and no bingo to be seen... see post on another thread about 'Jolyons in and around Padstow'!!

its in the chat thread about Padstow....
