What are your favourite places to visit when there? Where's best to eat?

Planking to go in May!

Whereabouts are you staying?

HippyKayYay · 25/03/2024 13:29

Ceasar Manrique’s house.
The cactus garden

If staying in Playa Blanca you MUST go to the cappuccino grand cafe, their pastries and cakes are absolute heaven!

I recommend Texas Ranchos Lanzarote park. There's a little water park in there aswell which you can use after seeing all the animals. Also opportunities to swim with sea lions and dolphins.

Playa Blanca is the resort you want. Best pizza on the island is at Casale Franco which is in a strange setting but 100% worth it! Cactus garden, Manrique foundation museum, the volcano tour at Timafaya, visit the volcanic beaches over on the west coast, nice beaches around playa blanca like playa flamingo, playa dorada. Good ice cream at Antiu Xixona Helados at the Marina Rubicón.

We have only been once, but if all goes well, in 2 weeks we will be on the plane. We stayed last time in Playa Blanca. Lovely, family orientated resort, lots of bars and restaurants. Our fav beach was Playa Flamingo, an artificial bay built with natural rocks, and yellow sand. It forms a large fairly shallow area so the water warms up quickly. A few restaurants at the beach so not far for food, ice cream and drinks. And toilets. If you go to the south end of the island, go on a trip to the volcanic park. Amazing landscape, some interesting demos of the power of the volcano, chicken barbequed over the heat of the volcano, and the floor is hot. Some of the trips include camal rides if you like that. We are going to Costa Teguise thus time, which is close to the capital, so we will explore there, and also go to the tourist spots in the North if the island. It is a strange looking place at first, very barren as you drive from the airport, but they only built one high rise hotel, in Arricife, before banning buildings higher than the palm trees, so although the resorts are all planned from the 70s onwards, they are not full of ugly high rise blocks as other Spanish resort towns.

Take the boat over from Órzola to La Graciosa, aka the 8th inhabited Canary Island (very good info for pub quizzes). It's completely different geographically to Lanzarote and generally rather magical.

If you hire a car (Cabrera Medina is a good company who treat you like an adult), drive along the LZ-30 road and stop at one of the wineries. The vines growing among the volcanic ash are a unique sight.

Bits of old-town Arrecife are nice. Puerto del Carmen is a bit "Full English".

We loved it when we were there a couple of years ago. We found it to be spotless and friendly. We stayed in Playa Blanca and hired a car (highly recommended). Driving there is easy and relaxed. We did all the things mentioned above, other than visit Grasiosa. We will go back and visit there next time.

Its beautiful and easy relaxing and chill. Paradise

Muckingpuddle · 26/03/2024 05:27

Hire a scooter the queues up the volcano can be long and you can jump to the front easy on a scooter.

OnHerSolidFoundations · 26/03/2024 17:53

Sounds amazing thanks so much for all the tips!

Adults only? Lots of cool vineyards to visit if so. They look really scenic as they plant the vines inside little crescents of volcanic rock.

The inland towns are much more Spanish and prettier than the coastal towns - in general.
