Help longer than expected layover at Kuala Lumpur

Family of 4, 2 adults and dcs 12 (on day 4 of trip!) and 14. Reasonable travellers, but both have ASD and/or ADHD, so we try to plan for calm where possible.
We fly Malaysian Airlines from LHR to Ho Chi Minh on 1 April. We booked the flights specifically as we had a short, less than 2 hours layover at KLIA.
The connection has been cancelled so now we have 7 1/4 hours. It was done within the timeframe permitted and they offered.usnthe day before or after (which we can't do) so they owe us nothing.
We are considering booking one of the lounges for a few hours, but there is so much to navigate and we are struggling to find info.
Do you get your bags back, or do they transfer them to your connection for you?
Are you funnelled off the plane into a specific area?
We are pretty sure that we land in and take off from terminal 1, which is the best lounge/which lounges are available to us?
Would really appreciate some help, tips, advice on how to manage this period of time at the airport, with tired DCs.

Hi there. the airline will transfer your checked luggage for you. KL airport is pretty nice and the Malaysian Airways business class lounge is nice with good food, clean loos etc. You can purchase access to the lounge (should be able to do that through malaysian airlines). tbh if you have 7.5 hours I would just go into the city, and book a room at one of the hotels. even the five star hotels are very very reasonable. that way you can properly rest and eat. I think there r some nice hotels close to the airport.

if you choose one of the city centre hotels (the banyan tree is excellent) then you can go have a look at the Petronas towers and indulge in some really great food (if you have the energy).

official taxis are available at the airport (there is an official taxi desk). it's very safe and friendly

Very jealous! I love Kuala Lumpur and I’m heading there in February next year. I would head into the city and visit Bukit Bintang or get a taxi to Batu Caves (mind the monkeys)

Thank you. We did consider heading in to KL, we spent part of our honeymoon there 17 years ago. But we looked at the estimated times for clearing the airport and getting back in, along with the fact that it's morning rush hour there, it would give us very little time actually in the city and certainly no time to rest. So we have ruled that out. We are traveling a lot when I'm Vietnam, so I'm not so bothered about squeezing that in.
The lounge info is confusing, some you can only access if international and some only if domestic etc.
I will look again at the Business Class lounge.

yes. there is a domestic business class lounge (in the domestic terminal) - which is not that great

and the international lounge in the international terminal - which you should be able to purchase access to.

yes that's true if you are arriving in the morning rush time....
