New York hotels/self catering

We're off to the US in October, spending a few days in New York among other things. Can anyone suggest suitable accommodation for family of four with 12yo DS and 15 yo DD. The kids will share a room.

I'm thinking self catering would be nice as we could eat in if we wanted to, but not sure if hotels likely to be more central and practical. TIA

New York has very strict regulations in place regarding AirBnB or similar short term rentals so you need to be very careful if you want to go that route, the market is virtually gone.

There are some hotels who have kitchenettes, that would help with storing food and leftovers from a meal out for the next evening.

Don't eat in. There's so much choice in new York for all sorts of food to suit all budgets.

Most hotels in NYC have a microwave and coffee machine/hot water plus a fridge. But as a PP says eating out can suit all budgets - pizza slices for a dollar etc.

That makes sense as the prices I've seen for average apartments are crazy. Hotel it is then...
