I am not used to travelling abroad for holidays so need your help please!
I’m looking at a week away at the end of October/early -mid November. Don’t want to spend more than around 4 hours flying, warm but not hot, needs to be safe outside of resort/local area as DH will want to run, don’t mind cold swimming pools or sea as I swim in the UK year round. We will want a mix of nice relaxing hotel on coast plus places to explore. Ideally close to restaurants and cafes with good local food.
Only place I’ve found that meets the criteria on paper so far is Madeira, has anyone been?
Budget £1000 ish per person, for 7 nights. Adult holiday so not bothered about stuff for kids.

I'd look at Sicily (Taormina, Giardini Naxos, Syracuse, Cefalu), Málaga, Nerja, Estepona and the Balearic islands. Spanish towns and cities often have lovely, long esplanades along the seafront that are great for running, if a little dull.

The October half-term is usually the last week in Oct so that week is likely to be busier/more expensive. We swam in the sea in October in Sicily in 2022 - it was like a warm bath.

Cape Verde is 5 hours but totally worth the extra hour. It’s a beautiful country with fantastic hotels.

South of France. Nice is great. Porto in Portugal. Italy. Very pleasant in Puglia. Any larger Greek island or Greece mainland.
