White Cross Bay - Lake District

We've decided on a UK holiday for October half time. Looking at the Lake District as its an area we've not taken the kids to before but both loved ourselves as kids. Kids 7 and 4 - youngest is a reluctant walker but improving.

I keep coming across caravans/lodges in White Cross Bay and it looks like everything we're looking for....indoor pool, private hot tub, walking distance to Windermere, entertainment for the kids.

Can anyone recommend/warn against?

In October half term is there likely to be any evening entertainment or kids clubs? I'm not hugely bothered by these, but is an added bonus.

There also seem to be multiple companies and private let's operating on the same site. Are they all pretty much the same?

Any thoughts or experience would be much appreciated, as would any ideas on things to do in the area or better alternatives.

Also, is a week too long? Are we better doing a shorter break at that time of year, or will there still be enough to keep us busy?

Massively doubting myself - not least because most places are Fri-Fri and even if we left straight from school and didn't stop we wouldn't arrive until around 10pm.

I wouldn't say the site is walking distance to Windermere.

There is Brockhole around the corner that is fun for kids if dry, has treetop nets etc

I would find an owner booking ( may find on Facebook or even Lake District Lodge Holidays. We prefer Fallbarrow park In bowness but no good if you need the swimming pool

We've been a few times - it's lovely. We always rent a lodge privately though. There is children's entertainment but not every night i don't think. It's not walking distance to Bowness but the bus stop is right outside and buses are frequent. You can walk to Brockhole visitor centre as PP said, which is great for kids of that age.

In terms of how long, we've always done Fri - Mon or Mon - Fri. I personally could do a week but don't think the kids would want to as a Lake District activities tend to be walking based!

Fallbarrow is much closer, in the centre of Bowness. White cross is about an hours walk from Bowness. We go every October and its a lovely time of year to go.

It's lovely but not really walking distance to Windermere or bowness. The site is pretty quiet & low-key so you'll find the entertainment fairly limited. Personally I think a week is too long. The weather can be a bit bit & miss up there by that time of year.

Hello!

I realise this post is old, but stumbled
across it whilst looking for White Cross Bay reviews!

Can I ask please, did you end up going?! And if so, how was it? Xx

We didn't go yet! Youngest is still a bit lazy/moans about walking down the road (but will run about for hours in the park).

I'm tempted for this time next year, light evenings and hopefully more willing participants for the walking.
