4-6 weeks trip, where would you go?

I'm hoping to do a trip for 4-6 weeks next year before DS starts school.

I'm undecided where to go. I was thinking Asia but don't fancy moving around too much so maybe flight into Singapore/KL and then a week in Thailand, Bali and maybe The Philippines.

Or I was thinking of doing some cruises around the Caribbean. Thinking of mixing it up and doing a couple of different cruises.

I appreciate this is a very big trip and we're super lucky to afford to do it so please only comment if you're looking to add some constructive advice.

for 2 adults and a child needing own air seat?

trust me… that is a budget and a tight one at that

what kind of standard of accom are you looking for?

FunnyFinch · 13/03/2024 15:23

unless that’s per person budget?

Just one adult and one child.

To be fair, I'm open to increasing the budget. I don't have a specific amount.

hotels? if so standard and board basis?

in season or prepared for out of season but cheaper?

So long as it's clean, I don't care. B&B basis is fine.

Just looking for ideas on locations really.

a caribbean cruise would decimate your budget so i’d rule that out

use a specialist, i would. Something like this should be tailored

FunnyFinch · 13/03/2024 15:39

but seeing as you can… definitely up your budget!

FunnyFinch · 13/03/2024 15:41

doesn’t your DH want to come?! (i was on another of your threads)

SummerInSun · 13/03/2024 15:42

I was going to suggest Australia and New Zealand, as they would be better with a four year old, but with that budget you would be better off in cheaper places like South East Asia. Agree with PP that if you can afford it, use a travel agency.

Yes he'd love to but unlike me, he doesn't have access to parental leave so it's not an option.

If it helps. Is he the father? Think everyone who is a parent has access to unpaid parental leave in the UK.

princesspadam · 13/03/2024 15:58

Carribean will be very dull with a young child. We go there just to relax, it's a bit 'seen one seen 'em all'

Thailand and Asia will be much more fun, what about Malaysia & Thailand?
Accommodation can be cheap, and internal flights are cheap, easy & plentiful

Yes he is the father however he won't be paid. The question wasn't regarding who's going on this trip.

We love the Caribbean. DS is happiest in a pool or at the beach. We won't be doing lots of excursions.

well in that case is a big 4-6 week travelling expedition with a 4 year old really appropriate

sounds like 10 days in the carribean (or spain!!) with dad when he can leave in the caribbean might be spot on!

House4DS · 13/03/2024 17:05

You should easily be able to do 4-6 weeks in SE Asia on that budget.
Flights about £1800 max.
3 weeks in Sri Lanka, 1 adult 3 kids cost us about £1500 + flights.
Nice but not plush guest houses were about £30 a night. Good places for younger kids.
6 weeks would be £1260 for accomodation.
Meals under £10.
Lots of variety in a beautiful and small country there. Wildlife, beaches, trains, fab food.....

Malaysia (peninsula or Borneo or both) would work too. Air Asia flights are cheap for hopping around.

princesspadam · 13/03/2024 17:07

So you want a 4-6 week break with a pool 💁🏼‍♀️
Tenerife???

Why bother going so far if you plan on doing so little?
I mean we all love a pool holiday, but 4-6 weeks?

Chewbecca · 13/03/2024 17:08

So June / July? Greece? Island hopping? With DH joining you for some of it!
If European summer and you just want a beach, why go further?

Overtheatlantic · 13/03/2024 17:10

Lake Guarda which has a fun park and then another couple of weeks traveling around Italy and Croatia?

Overtheatlantic · 13/03/2024 17:10

Or a Disney cruise?

Mandarinaduck · 13/03/2024 17:17

I’d go interrailing, across Germany and Switzerland and down to the Adriatic for some beach time. It’s free for kids. You could do some night trains for the fun of it.

Meadowfinch · 13/03/2024 17:20

Island hopping in the Caribbean.
