Iv never been and I’m looking at taking the kids in feb half term for 4-5 days.

Iv tried Google the weather and it seems like it might be ok.

Has anyone ever been at this time of year and was it ok?

It’s pretty touch and go at this time of year. My mother lives in the Algarve and has said it’s been pissing down and windy for the last couple of weeks where she is, but last year was lovely so it really depends of whether you’re willing to take the risk.

Do also bear in mind that it is a summer tourist spot, so you run the risk of things being closed for the season, and it the weather isn’t nice, there is not a huge amount for children to do.

Ooh I don't think it will be that warm I'm afraid. Certainly wouldn't want to be sat out by the pool if that's what you're looking at. . We went in September one year and even then the weather was bit crap. As per PP you might find lots of things closed out of season

I would like to clarify - when I said weather was lovely I meant “sitting outside for a drink/lunch in the sun” lovely, it’s very unlikely to be warm enough for lying by a pool, and will be chilly at night.

Rocknrollstar · 06/03/2024 07:29

We went in February. We generally needed cardigans over T-shirts (I still remember the really warm afternoon) and it was chilly in the evenings. Nice place tho

dastidlydaschel · 06/03/2024 07:32

I've been in February, as pp, will need a cardigan most days, certainly not beach/pool weather, but more nice warm spring day to be going out doing stuff weather.

Aviee · 06/03/2024 07:32

The sea will be cold and it's a bit of a risk in February if you're hoping for pool days.

You need to go further south for better weather in feb.

TheReflectingPool · 06/03/2024 07:36

I went to Canary Islands this Feb just passed and weather was lovely — 20-21 degrees every day, but even that isn’t guaranteed. Think you need to go further south in Feb (Canaries, Morocco) if warmth is a key thing on the list.

Pushkinini · 06/03/2024 07:50

I've been to the Algarve in February. It was warm, like a nice Spring day here, but not hot. A jumper was needed in the evening.

Newgirls · 06/03/2024 07:52

If you want to walk and explore great. If you want to lie on the beach, probably not

canaries will be more reliable

gettingolderbutcooler · 06/03/2024 07:58

We went to faro. It was warm enough in the day for t shirts, but not enough to swim or sunbathe.
But we had lots of walks on the beach, lovely restaurants etc...but we did have a car.

flavourshot · 06/03/2024 08:15

no way would i risk in february ^^

Girlintheframe · 06/03/2024 08:18

We are in the Algarve just now. Weather has been very mixed. Some days it's been raining and very cold. Other days it's been mild and shorts/t shirt weather. My parents are here for 3 months and said February this year was lovely, very warm. It's very much hit or miss.

Alwayswonderedwhy · 06/03/2024 08:24

It won't be pool or beach weather. If you've not been to Albufeira before I'd do some research! There are a lot of great places to stay in the Algarve!

Costacoffeeplease · 06/03/2024 08:54

I live in the algarve. This year has been quite cold and wet (for here) but we’re still desperate for rain.

In Feb a lot of places are only just starting to open up. We’re not in Albufeira but it’s been the quietest winter we can remember in over 20 years

By the way, for anyone planning an algarve holiday this year, be aware that water reserves are really low and hotels have been told to reduce their consumption by 15%. We may face reduced pressure or cuts in supply through the hotter, busier months.

Thanks all.

I think I might look somewhere else as my son loves the pool and will want to be in the pool and sea in the day.

Yes, I agree, no one is in a pool here in feb, and definitely not the sea as it’s the Atlantic and ‘refreshing’ even in summer.

My son is disabled and even if it’s freezing he will try and get in 😂

Il check out Morocco.

I just want a bit of winter sun! 😅

Try the canaries, you might be ok there

How was the 11am one? Hope you're okay.
