Pool temperature in Majorca in late May

Hi, we are looking at going to Majorca in May half term with our two DC. Will an outdoor (unheated) pool be warm enough for small children (age 2 and 5) in the last week of May? Any advice welcome! Thank you!

@reluctantbrit yeah it was a bit rubbish but still nice to get away! At least I didn't need to worry about the baby getting sun burn 😀

That’s exactly what she’s asking here. For opinions.

Not sure OP. I’m guessing you’ve got a villa booked. I’ve booked one for a couple of weeks later in the north. From experience, for the time I’m going (last 2 weeks of June) I’m expecting it to be a bit chilly, but manageable as long as the weather is hot.

If you’ve got very small children it will probably be too cold in May. That said there was a huge heatwave last year, it all depends on the weather x

lol what? Either she’s asking for information or she’s asking for opinions. Those are two different things. A Google search can tell you an unheated pool is almost always too cold for swimming in Mallorca in May. Seems like this thread is just an opportunity for humble bragging about expensive holidays. Also, pro tip, if you want to be respectful, you might wanna spell the island name correctly 🤷‍♀️.

Ah jealousy then. Not a good look.

Hope no one else humble brags about their holidays with you about 😂

@AllThePotatoesAreSinging Lmao jealousy? I’ve been to Mallorca twice in the last year and I actually know how to spell it because I respect other cultures (probably not a concept you understand). I just think it’s weird and lazy when people clout farm asking questions they could easily Google. Sue me.

I’m not sure why you are attacking me over spelling. I haven’t spelled it incorrectly. I’m not sure why you are attacking me over my attitude to other cultures as again there is absolutely nothing in my posts to support you forming that opinion. I find it really weird (and lazy) that you are trying to pull me up on something that I haven’t even done. Is it school holidays where you are?

You are correct, I’m sure I have absolutely no understanding of Mallorquin culture, having picked up nothing during my 20+ visits to the island visiting relatives (Indigenous, not expat). None so far this year though so can’t compare with your 2 visits so far (humble brag?😂)

You are right, respect for other cultures isn’t something I understand at all (I’m a qualified RE and Sociology teacher 😂).

I’m struggling to find much respect for you though because you aren’t coming across very well - nothing to do with your culture, you just don’t seem very nice.

I’ve no problem with OP asking a question. So what if she can google it? May is too cold for me (most of the time, last year was fine) but I took it as that’s what she is asking.

Have a nice day now.

BananaSplitsss · 06/03/2024 12:12

It’s quite easy to mistakenly spell Mallorca on auto correct. I have done it.
No one is showing off; I travelled there three times last year and will be this year. Nothing to show off about- just giving advice on the weather really.
Chill yer boots and stop derailing the thread please!

JanewaysBun · 06/03/2024 12:40

Ive done this exact situation. It's ok, water a bit "fresh" and not ideal. The DC are much more hardy than me so were fine but i was a bit cold!

JanewaysBun · 06/03/2024 12:44

(It was last year for reference so not sure if it was hold or cold vs previous years). I would love to go back but probably summer hols to guarantee warm temps

bea19 · 07/03/2024 17:39

@Lexiconifer apologies for not catching the autocorrect switching Mallorca to Majorca while typing one handed while feeding the baby. It’s a shame the first assumption was that I’m ignorant of other cultures rather than that there was an innocent mistake… Thanks to all the kind people on this thread sharing their experiences to help our holiday search though!

Do you also routinely spell Ibiza as Eivissa, Germany as Deutschland, Sweden as Sverige?

If not why on earth would you use Mallorca over Majorca? Mallorca is the Spanish language spelling, Majorca is the English Language spelling. As we speak largely in English on Mumsnet, Majorca is the appropriate spelling to use.

QueSyrahSyrah · 07/03/2024 17:49

Ps.. OP I've been to Majorca in August and September and found unheated pools, especially large ones, far too cold to use for more than a quick cool-off plunge. In fact the sea has been considerably warmer!

Verite1 · 07/03/2024 18:56

Pool will be cold but depends on the child. My youngest would still spend ages in there. Until her lips went blue! You can take shortie wetsuits - we always do now if we go to Europe during May half term.
