50th Treat - Nicer Problems to have :)

Wise Netter's it's my 50th B'day in Nov. Lovely DH has proposed the opportunity for just the 2 of us to go somewhere or do something of my choosing for circa 1 week.

He surprised me with a trip to NY for 40th & had planned to do the same again as we loved it so much; however recent discussions with a friend about how NY has gone hugely downhill (in their opinion) has put us off a bit.

He suggested we could do a cruise on a Silver Seas type ship which we have vaguely discussed as 'a nice thing for when we are older' (😬) & I know I'm extremely lucky but at a bit of a loss as to what would be a really special treat so open to ideas please.

As additional background, we have 5 children, youngest is 15 with complex needs but eldest DS (24) has very kindly agreed to move back in & be around for all care needs & he is fully trained up on all aspects of care. The others are broadly sensible too although I have probably just doomed myself but I'm not too worried about them all coping without us

Thank you :)

I'd love to go to Iceland, we've also done Prague I'm winter, it's far more relaxed than in summer, you could also go to Czesky Krumlov which is a very picturesque town in the mountains.

Iceland has extremely unpredictable weather in November. We went in mid September and three days were very wet and blowing a gale. One day it snowed and was so windy we had to park up for three hours because it was too dangerous to drive. So for a luxury holiday in November, it’s a risk when you could go to South Africa. We are going to Iceland again but in the summer!

Absolutely.

Don't waste a trip to Iceland on November! It's unlikely to have snowed yet but highly likely to be lashing down with rain and blowing a gale.

How exciting! I went to Venice for a recent big birthday and it was wonderful - we booked fabulous restaurants, private boat tour of the canals, walking history/food tour, concerts etc in advance and it was magical from start to finish. We had GLORIOUS bright skies (November). We walked and walked for miles stopping for coffees, pastries, cichetti and spritzes and it was everything and more I could have hoped for.

Snow in Sept might have been freakish but it was a massive blizzard. The camper van we ended up next to (we arrived first) was seriously rocking! And that was parked with our vehicles facing the wind. Glad we had a 4x4. On the other side the guy wanted a wee. I’ll leave that to your imagination……..
