I just cant seem hit on the right thing.
I need an R&R kind of holiday, somewhere I can relax and swim and eat goodfood, and dh can go for walks and swim with me and eat good food.
I need to go in April, end of april ish, 10 days, not too hot, meds im on mean i cant be exposed to HOT but warm is ok, ill be in the big floppy hat and shades. Not a hotel, I want an apartment where we can eat in if im feeling tired, i will be tired for a while after my illness.
Short flight, not morocco/egypt kind of place, spain, canaries, the usual, mainland spain.
Anyone any nice suggestions?

Do you want to swim in an outdoor pool? If so, I'd start with that requirement - I'm not sure how many places will have a heated outdoor pool in April, particularly places that aren't too hot.

Somewhere all-inclusive might work, so that you don't have to worry about cooking. Are you open to that? Or would you prefer something like a small city break? Or somewhere quiet and peaceful?

What UK airport(s) would you prefer to fly out of?

Doteycat · 12/02/2024 15:34

Not out of UK, out of Ireland, slightly less choice.
Not a city break, a total fly and flop, no not all inclusive,
I dunno will I find a place that suits tbh..im demented looking.
Heated outdoor pool wld be amazing.

Malta??

Doteycat · 12/02/2024 15:50

Looked at Malta, not great beaches and accomm looks a bit ropey.
But I am open to all suggestions!
I might go back and look again.
I think too I might ring an old fashioned travel agent, i havent the energy for a big holiday research malarky.

South of France? Fly to Nice, or Italy fly to Naples - look on booking.com for self catering.

I think ai is a lot less stressful though, good ones have multiple restaurants including a buffet, so much easier than having to source food and cook it

We had a wonderful holiday at IKOS resorts, very good food, service, lovely staff, very relaxing all inc holiday. We have bkd to go again, would recommend.

How about Malaga? South of Spain so should be warm in April. Small and compact. There are beaches in the city. Easy transport from the airport to the city. You could also look at Alicante.

puerto pollensa in Mallorca is lovely - calm, quiet, nice beaches and food.

If you want to swim at the end of April then you will either need to be quite hardy or go somewhere further south than the Mediterranean. Very few hotels in the Med (and even fewer apartment complexes) have heated outdoor pools, and the sea temperature will be about 18° even on days where it's 25° in the shade. Upmarket places may have a spa with an indoor pool, but it may not be the size you want to do a lot laps in.

As for location, I'd suggest maybe Menorca, or some of the quieter bits of Mallorca such as Porto Colom or San Telmo. The Canaries are an obvious choice, but then the flight is getting up to 4 hours.

I am hardy enough for the water. I swim in ireland and i dont mind bringing my wetsuit. I just havent been in a while so leisurely is the goal. I think mallorca is coming in top of the list and i know puerto pollenca.
Thanks for all the replies.

Cape Verde? I thought it was awfully boring but if you are after R&R then it will probably be perfect for you!

Quinta do Lago in Portugal. It’s 20 mins from Faro airport. There are lots of resorts but I can recommend Four Seasons Fairways and Four Seasons Country Club. These are both apartment resorts with landscaped gardens and everyone gets a small garden or sizeable terrace area. Fairways has a heated outdoor pool that I’ve used in December, and an adjacent indoor pool and spa pool. QDL is all built round three golf courses so there’s lots of green space.

There are lovely fairly flat walks down to the beach and around the Ludo nature reserve and along boardwalks with all kinds of birds. You can also drive a short way (2 to 10 mins) to several beach car parks and beach restaurants connected by boardwalks.

The resorts all have restaurants, and you can use the restaurants on neighbouring resorts as well. There’s also a small shopping centre less than 5 mins drive away with a decent small supermarket.
