Paying for excursions before you go away?

Looking at booking some excursions before we go on holiday.

  1. Boat trip, shared, runs on a schedule. They want full payment upfront. What if the weather is atrocious?
  2. Scuba diving, they want full payment up front, what if I’m ill and can’t dive?

We booked Whale watching in NZ and it was too foggy and got money back
In Rome we booked Collosium before we went over. The underground part was cancelled and they gave us 25% back.

If you are ill , not sure they have a duty to give you your money back depending on the notice
You need to look at the terms and conditions you booked under

You’ll need to read their cancellation policies. Sometimes they’ll refund you if you cancel before a stated time, or if they cancel (because of rough seas, for example).

But you can’t guard against all eventualities and if you want to book in advance, you might just have to take the risk.
