Vancouver in August - must see things

Hi, I'm hoping to get real life recommendations on things to do in and around Vancouver.

We are 2 adults and 2 dd (11&8). We're going for 2.5 weeks and staying with friends for 1 week on Savory Island.

What should we do with the other week? Potentially hire a motor home to go exploring? We have a touring caravan at home and have stayed in hostels before.

We don't have an endless budget so need to make the most of our time & money.

Thanks

I’d hire a car & get out of the city, the Rockies are not too far. There is not much to do in Vancouver as a tourist, a couple of days is plenty.

Vancouver to Banff in the Rockies is a nine/ten hour drive without stops at any of the interesting places along the way for hiking or white water rafting. (And then factor in a return trip). Whistler is definitely worth a trip especially if you're into mountain biking /hiking. A few days around the city itself is plenty- cycle around Stanley Park is a must do and all the fab Asian restaurants all over the city. Ferry across to Victoria and Vancouver Island. Coach trip or drive to Capilano Suspension bridge is another nice day trip.

Ferry to Seattle, with free whale watching if you’re lucky then space needle , Pike Place market, the original Starbucks and the amazing underground tour if they still do it.
