Bahamas travel experience

Hi all

My husband and I would like to go on holiday to the Bahamas for our 10 year anniversary. Our anniversary is in early September but I’m not sure if September will be a good month to travel there…?

Our situation is that he is not too fussed but I would like to make the most of it as it’s probably only going to be a one time trip. So if anyone has been to Nassau, and any other places or day trips, please let me know how you planned out your vacation. We are probably going to stay for around 5 nights. Flying from London, we are not very good at swimming so diving or snorkelling is out of the question. I like the idea of going to Atlantis however staying there is not mandatory as long as I get to visit there. Any hotel recommendations or is Atlantis a good choice? I like the idea of boat trips but have heard that there is an island of wild pigs and lizards of some sort. Would love to see the dolphins too but it might be tricky as I’m not a strong swimmer. I realise this is going to cost us in total probably £4-5,000. So an expensive trip and I want to make it special.

TBH, for only 5 nights, there’s nicer places closer to the Uk than Nassau.
Atlantis is fun though, all beautifully landscaped with fountains, endless ponds with baby turtles, rays etc. Amazing yachts moored beside it. VERY expensive to eat there though. There’s cheaper restaurants outside and in the surrounding area.
Nassau is interesting for a drive around, some amazing houses but a lot of it is not so nice and be careful walking at night or in certain parts during the day.
Nassau beaches are average. If you had more time I’d recommend heading to one of the Out islands like Exuma (where the boat tour to see the real pigs, iguanas, Thunderball grotto is), Cat island, lots of others. These are the real Bahamas where you go to the local shop, chat to the locals, hire a car, fabulous amazing deserted beaches with rays and turtles, not a sun lounger in sight.
The Out islands I would definitely recommend. For such a long flights and only 5 nights and in Nassau only? Hmmm, personally I wouldn’t go. Especially if you aren’t into swimming as there is lots of snorkelling, diving with the sharks etc.

We went to the Maldives for 5 nights, got bored as there’s nothing to do there but glad we only booked 5. Maybe 7 nights then, but I am mainly interested in the Atlantis resort, as Ive wanted to visit there since I was little, the pigs, iguanas, or just exploring ground different islands or beaches. I like the idea of Exuma, so maybe it might be worth staying there and taking a trip over to Atlantis for 1 day/night. I see there is a nice Sandals hotel in Exuma. Im guessing there is less to do there than Atlantis, don’t want to get bored. Always wanted to go to the Bahamas, I’ve attempted to snorkel in the Maldives but I was terrified to try and swim out to the reef as I haven’t practiced swimming for so many years, and am not confident at all. I just stayed in the shallow water near the shore, we rented a kiak and had life vests but when we went more than my height deep I got so scared as the little boat was so wobbly. Don’t think im comfortable around water really. Really want to try the water slides but not much good if my swimming 🏊‍♀️ is shit lol. Thanks for the advice 🙏

We did this trip last September and had a ball. Everything is megas expensive.
We did the pigs , iguana and land shark tour its a full day tour and very long but really was a highlight for 2 people this cost about £1000. We also visited Atlantis for the day but to get full access to the animal exhibitions and waterpark, you need a daypass unless you are staying there. There is also beha mar which is a vegas style resort.
We stayed in sandals royal bahamian and loved it especially the private island.
