My 13 year old loves ancient history and would like to visit a famous site for her birthday present this year. Looking at where we can fly from our regional airport I think we could do 3 night/2 days in Naples to see Pompeii in October half term. B&Bs seem reasonable and we could get the train from Naples to Pompeii easily.

Has anyone who has been to Naples got advice for where to stay that we can get to from the airport for an evening arrival, and we can get to the station for Pompeii? Thinking about the archeology museum for day 2 but what else to see? I obviously want to avoid any dodgy areas!

Take the funicular to the top of the city for the views, then wander down.
I love Naples, have fun.

Another archaeological site, Herculaneum, is also worth a visit. Not as big as Pompeii but different and worth seeing.
If you want to go up Mr Vesuvius, book in advance. You can bus to a car park but it's tickets only after that. We were unlucky as all sold out during our trip.
