Fantasy solo trip?

If money was no object, what would be your fantasy solo holiday? I like the idea of a long train journey or a beach hut with a hammock. Lots of books to read, good food and a big comfy bed. No TV, no newspapers.

Stilted apartment over the sea in the Maldives with my own butler. And yes, for this I would absolutely want to be alllllll alone!

It's my dreaaaaaam 😆

Central America tour - some Caribbean time, some Pacific time and some rainforest time.

Or a grand tour of the Yangtze in five star style with other Agatha Christie type guests.

I don't think I'd enjoy a big cruise ship but I like the idea of a small river cruise with an eclectic group of people.

I wouldn't want to go anywhere new abroad on my own, just because I love sharing the experience with DH or DD. However if I was left on my own I'd be off like a shot and it would be Borneo, Madagascar or the Galapagos
My ideal solo would be a week somewhere in the uk, maybe Bath, trundling round national Trust/jane Austen places. Having afternoon teas and staying in air bnbs with grand pianos so I can play in the evening. Then a summer school at Finchcocks

i am so peak middle class middle age

A trip all around Italy, inc Sicily. Or Vietnam.

Somewhere warm...

Trans Siberian express returning via the Iron Silk Road. Lots of audiobooks, chocolate, nice things to eat and drink, and watching huge swathes of the world go by. Would involve a lot more money plus a vastly different political set up in various places though…

I did manage an amazing trip for my 30th - a month solo around part of the States via Amtrak. I’m reluctant to fly again (plus have a 5YO) so it is unlikely to be repeated.

I wanted to go four times to experience all seasons. But mainly in winter to curl up in one of their quilts with a book and pretend to read but actually just look out the window and watch nature go by.

Wow! That's just been added to my list. Gorgeous.

Beautiful. I imagine it's a small fortune and an eternity just to get there.

I'd love to travel around Canada on those trains with the glass roofs......sheer bliss.

MrsHamlet · 13/01/2024 15:41

Trans Siberian for me too.

Iran was this year's plan. That's not happening :(

I'd like to do something utterly crazy like the iron ore train. That I couldn't ask DH and DD to do. againstthecompass.com/en/iron-ore-train-mauritania/

DH and DH are pretty adventurous but not that adventurous.

Also, adding the trans Siberian but also the trans Mongolia. Mongolia is magical.
