Youth hostels with children

I am in the process of pricing up a trip to Costa Rica for myself, DH and 3 DC who will be 14, 10 and 8. We’ll be on a tight budget so I’m looking into staying in hostels as an accommodation option. I’ve stayed in hostels in Europe and Australia myself but never with kids and wondered if anyone had any experiences or things to watch out for before booking. Doesn’t have to be in Costa Rica, general views and opinions would be great. Thank you!

We just did this last summer!
There were other kids in every place we stayed.
No issues at all. Private bathroom might be handy? Shared is fine too.
You can then self cater to keep costs down further.
Places we liked:
La Fortuna this place were setting up a website for direct booking.
Samara
Cahuita
We travelled by public bus or minivan transfer instead of hiring a car.
Loved it!
Carribbean side is cheaper for exploring national parks and we saw much more wild life. Tortuguero is great.
14 yr old will be adult entry prices but the younger two will be kids.
If you can make it work financially it's a fab trip.
For more budget friendly locations, I can recommend Sri Lanka and Borneo.
Hostels in those places too.

★★★ Arenal Poshpacker, Fortuna, Costa Rica

Arenal Poshpacker features an outdoor swimming pool, garden, a terrace and restaurant in Fortuna.

Thank you, great to know that you’ve had a positive experience! The hotel you recommend looks beautiful, I’ll keep that one in mind for sure 😀

@Brosources The Samara hostel I linked to too was probably our favourite.
