Mosquitoes in the Caribbean?

I've been looking at options for beach hols in Jan or Feb next year. Obviously Europe is unreliable weather wise at that time of year, so I'm looking into the Caribbean (maybe Grenada or St Lucia), but I'm quite worried about mosquitoes and the possibility of getting something like dengue, which sounds dreadful!

Asking around at work, nobody else seems to worry about this. Am I overreacting? I'm a bit of a worrier and I'm afraid that worrying about dengue or something would ruin the trip!

@whimsicalmoon PS If you decide on a resort in Punta Cana, let me know before you book and I will let you know if it is one with any swampy areas and if it is one with a good fogging program. I live right in the resort zone. Our complex is fogged weekly. We believe my husband got dengue in Las Terrenas as he was up their for a weekend with his best friend and they rented rustic lodges..no aircon..no screens and right in the jungle. AND the silly man took no repellent with him LOL. It was rough and he never wants to go through it again , so he is alot more careful at dawn and dusk.
