Good morning!

Im looking for ideas on how to spend one day in Iceland to see whether it is possible and worth it?

i was thinking a walking tour, lunch and a taxi to a place of natural interest.

any ideas from those who have travelled to iceland?

thank you

I would go to the blue lagoon, that and the northern lights tour (which you wouldn’t have time for) were the best things we did.

Is there a reason for only one day?

Do you mean a flight in and out on the same day? Or getting there the night before, leaving the morning after so one free day?

Consider the fact that there may well be flight delays. Even an hour's delay could spoil your plans. I'd do at least an overnight.

You can do Blue lagoon on way to or from airport which is about an hour from capital (can't spell it) which is only really a town. I doubt you would also fit in any of the Golden Circle in a day trip.

If it's a stop on the way to NY and it's in winter I would be wary. We went Iceland in the summer so was on a fb page. There is quite a high risk for bad weather cancelling flights over the winter through until about March.

It's an amazing place - I would go for a dedicated trip and give it more time.

Yes I think you're are all right. Ive just looked at getting from the airport to the city and it takes a huge chunk out of the day.

back to square one!

When are you thinking of going?

Over the last couple of days there has been an earthquake swarm, and they think that things are building up to a new eruption on the Reykjanes peninsula.

Do the Golden Circle Bus Tour that includes the secret Lagoon hot spring swim.

Or hire a car to do the golden circle more quickly and then take you to a prebooked session at the blue lagoon on your way back to the airport. We spent a half day at Blue lagoon before our flight. It made the travel day feel like another holiday.

I think a day is long enough to do things. If you have a full day I’d do the Golden Circle tour. It can be done in a day. There are bus tours or you can hire a car and drive it (although I wouldn’t want to do that in the depths of winter).

The Reykjanes peninsula (where the airport is) is a beautiful place in its own right. We spent half a day driving around it once. It’s been more geologically active since then and there’s now more tours of that area.

I’ve never been to the Blue Lagoon- it’s just not my sort of thing- but it’s very easily reachable from the airport too. Coaches are constantly shuttling back and forth between there and Keflavik.

My initial plan was for this thursday.
