spa hotels in a city

Hi,
Me and a few girlfriends would like to get away for a weekend, anywhere in the uk, we'd like a spa hotel but somewhere near a city centre mainly for a transport links, as we will be all coming from different locations but also to go out for dinner and drinks in the evening. I'd love to get some recommendations.

Thanks

Bath is a good shout. The spa is right in town and can be walked to from the station. There's also lots of other things to do.

We've recently stayed at the Grand in York. It's a fab 5 star with a pool/spa and a great location for the city centre.

The spa at the Park Plaza in Cardiff has a lovely spa with a gorgeous swimming pool. The food at the Laguna bar and restaurant there is also delicious!

Thanks folks, will look into those

Ensana in Buxton. It's a proper spa with natural waters and a restored Victorian pool. Plus Buxton and the surrounding area is lovely.
caveat - I've never stayed there just jealously pored over the site when staying in Buxton with my then-12yo DD who was too young for the spa there.

Onespa at the Sheraton in Edinburgh. Heaven. And Edinburgh is a fabulous city.

The Gainsborough hotel in Bath has a lovely spa and a great restaurant. It's bang in the centre of town too.

LittleMonks11 · 20/10/2023 22:13

Another vote for the Gainsborough in Bath.

And the Grand in York.

mrsfollowill · 20/10/2023 22:15

The Grand in York- especially when the trains are running well- it's a five minute walk from the station and an amazing place to stay.

Rantypanties · 20/10/2023 22:16

Nirvana Spa is just outside Reading, you can’t stay there but definitely worth the effort of staying in the town and travelling!

Switchingoff · 20/10/2023 22:18

I didn’t like the Gainsborough. Spa was sooooo busy and there’s no outdoor space at the hotel at all to relax (may be irrelevant in winter) or even a nice lounge type area that I can remember. Plus room was tiny for the money!

nokidshere · 20/10/2023 22:22

@Switchingoff that's a shame, there were less than 8 people when I was there and 3 of them were us!

I was at Niverna last Thursday, amazing place. We stayed at the premier inn at winners triangle? It's was fine. But attached to it was a steak house (bar & block) that looked a little ragged, however the food and service were fantastic! And 2 for 1 cocktails. And then just fall 8ft bed!

Rantypanties · 20/10/2023 22:23

@nokidshere i spend most of my time there in the hydrotherapy pool!! It’s great isn’t it!!

nokidshere · 20/10/2023 22:31

@Rantypanties I loved the hydrotherapy pool, it was so good. I went in all of them lol. Outdoors in the rain was fab too! Thought I'd love the flotation and I lasted 30 seconds - it completely freaked me out and I had to get out.

Rantypanties · 20/10/2023 22:39

@nokidshere i got told off for moving around too much in there a few years back so I decided it wasn’t quite for me!!

I was gonna brave the outdoor pool then I feasted on the salad bar and had to have a nice lie down on the heated chairs!!!

hby9628 · 20/10/2023 23:24

I went to bath for a weekend with my friend recently. Absolutely loved the city but the spa was disappointing to be honest. I'm glad I want but i didn't love it & think if you want a spa, peaceful experience it might not be the best option.

Magnalux · 21/10/2023 13:46

Lots of food for thought, cheers

We've recently stayed at the Grand in York. It's a fab 5 star with a pool/spa and a great location for the city centre.

We've just come back from there. Hotel is lovely, spa was a bit meh. You have to pre-book a slot and it's a bit poky. Other guests were also complaining that the hot tub could have been warmer and something about the sauna being on a timer and turning itself off. Nice enough massage and quite reasonably priced.

Amazing breakfast (slightly missing the point...). York is lovely, the 7 hour train journey back to London in the storm less so.
