Cheap Hot Christmas!

mynamechangemyrules · 11/10/2023 20:43

There is a possibility that I will be solo this Xmas with my kids spending their first Xmas with their dad...

I could fly 20-27th somewhere.

Luton and Stansted airports are close but so is Heathrow really.

I started looking at cheap flights and Iceland is really reasonable, but I've lived half my life in hot countries and after 2 years in the U.K. I feel like I need to get some heat in my bones.

Is there anywhere I could get to which is still hot, but cheap, at that time of year?

Ideally I want a lovely French summer postponed to Xmas 😂 Lie by the pool, explore little side streets etc.

But my budget is teeeny. (Well it doesn't really exist but seeing what I could pull out of the bag).

Any recos please!

Lanzarote or Tenerife would be worth a look. Affordable and still nice weather.

friendlycat · 11/10/2023 23:21

Puerto Mogan Gran Canaria. But what is your budget

BabyPapa · 12/10/2023 00:18

Greece/Cyprus might be worth a look?

Kapalika · 12/10/2023 00:51

I don’t think this sounds like your ideal trip, but have you thought about Morroco.

Goa

Goa

On a teeny budget? Get real Hmm

Agree that Tenerife etc area are a good bet for half decent weather. Greece had some good deals this autumn so worth checking. Might be decent daytime but a lot cooler at night.

Greece and Cyprus - lots of resorts will be closed, it's not a typical area for winter holidays unless you have a house and stay long-term.

I like Puerto de la Cruz in Tenerife, you have a bit more share of clouds and rain than on the southern side but the town is nicer to walk around. Hire a car and discover the island.

But I don't think it is really hot, pool weather. For that you would have to go further and that's not on a budget.

Cape Verde

Goa is too far to go for a week and it's peak time price wise.Presumably ,op would need a visa too.
Greece, Cyprus and Turkey are out as there wouldn't be much sun.
Lanzarote, Morocco or Egypt although Egypt probably not great at the mo.

Muddle2000 · 12/10/2023 11:39

I used to go a lot in the winter as I needed sun for my psoriasis The Med is no good after October Egypt will be ok but not sure of prices The Canaries are quite good for sunbathing etc till
Christmas but the sun goes at 4pm and you need a cardi February or
March are the high season Otherwise S
Morocco has longest sunshine hours

Canary Islands or Southern Moro

se leave 2 optioms

Muddle2000 · 12/10/2023 11:44

Puerto Cruz in Tenerife is rather cloudy in winter so fine for a visit and they do good prices hotels for single but limited sunbathing The festive season is expensive anywhere as is single travelling yet the few weeks before can give some splendid bargains

Coffeepot72 · 12/10/2023 18:07

OP, you may need to be realistic, short haul is unlikely to deliver the heat you want in December?

Favouritefruits · 12/10/2023 21:34

I have a friend who goes to Morocco every Christmas, she comes back with a bit of a tan so assume it’s hot, they love and I know have pool days so will be warm enoughM

mynamechangemyrules · 12/10/2023 21:38

Yeah, I was being a bit optimistic! Some of my family are in Egypt but I fancied something new to me. Have had Christmas in Goa pre kids- 💕
I'm going to look into the Canary Islands for a little boost of heat! Might not be my tropical idyll but might cure S.A.D.
