we went to Malaysia pre kids & loved it but it is very hot & might be too sultry for your kids to cope with.

We went to KL, Malacca, down to Kota Bahru, & then on to Borneo. Lankawi is also v nice as is the coast bordering Thailand - which we didn't have time to go to.

TBH if you're going in that direction Borneo might be better. We went to Turtle Island where you see turtles lay their eggs in the sand & get to release baby turtles along the beach to the sea & also Sepilok Orang Utan orphnage which you would all love. Also on Borneo there are some decent beaches.

Can't remember how long the flight was!

Food wise its very easy & inernational so easy with yound ones.

It should be about 13 hours non-stop. Recommend Malaysian Airlines - got those little TV screens behind the seats.

Hot and humid - just be around 30 degrees during the day on average. I don't like the sticky heat but maybe children don't mind so much? It limits the amount of time you can walk around outside.

Malaysia has changed a lot. There are plenty of things to do with kids now. There are numerous theme parks, an ice skating rink, arcades, etc.

Toys are cheap and in KL, they're everywhere. If you need a quick fix, you'll find something to amuse a little one.

The flight to Paris from KL is almost 13 hours. MAS provides plenty of food and you have a tv (with kids' movies) in front of you. The staff are very good with children.

Penang is nice. You can go up a mountain on a funicular railway, and there are temples with turtles and snakes which children would probably enjoy.

We went to Langkawi for a week last Easter and had a fab time. Stayed at The Andamann. We live in Asia so it wasn't too far to travel though. Lots and lots to do and the weather was great (you just need to avoid the rainy season). KL is good and has lots to do for the children (eg Petronas Tower, Sunway Lagoon). Generally the islands round Malaysia/Thailand are very popular for their scenery, weather and watersports. If coming all the way from the UK I'd probably head for Borneo (or Hong Kong or Singapore if you want a city) and would tag on an island like Langkawi, Tioman or Phuket for R and R.
