Passport Stamping Entry and Exit?

Bit of a strange one. I have a visitor who is a Japanese resident who has applied for a driving licence in Japan based on his driving licence obtained in the UK many years ago.
He has to obtain official stamps or something equivalent to say he has been resident in the UK for a set number of days.
His passport was stamped on the way in but he asked and it is not stamped on the way out. They don’t do that at Edinburgh Airport.

Do any of you marvellous Mumsnetters know an equivalent official stamp… or know someone who will ? Preferably somewhere near Central Belt of Scotland. However … can travel .

He flies home on the 4th October.

I recentjy went abroad and our passports were stamped on exit and teen try to the UK, but different situation in that they were all British passports, and we travelled via Hull docks.

Will your visitor actually be leaving the UK from Edinburgh airport? Or is it a transfer to LHR or somewhere, from which they'll leave the UK?

Leaving from Edinburgh Airport.
Yes, @IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads we have had our passports stamped on entry and exit with other countries.

Could he get a really cheap return flight to an EU country before he goes home? They'll stamp him in and out.

Also, I'd double-check that the UK doesn't stamp him out. Every country I've been to does this. It would be weird for the UK to be an exception.

Failing that, would his return boarding pass be enough? Or a letter endorsed by a notary?

Good idea @BlowDryRat
I think it needs to be a UK thing.
The lady at the customs / passport said it was UK wide. No record of people leaving .

To update : we explored Japanese Consulate as proof of stay … that was a no.
However the authorities in his area did accept his airport duty free shop receipts and his Edinburgh and Paris boarding cards.
He can now drive in Japan with his UK licence.
