Have you been? What would you recommend doing whilst there? Any good restaurants?
I've been to other Greek islands but never this one.

It’s a really lovely town - I think my favourite town in Corfu. The harbour is so pretty and there are some great restaurants and tavernas around it. Our favourite restaurant was called Kima I think but we also liked Virginia’s for cocktails and there were a couple of great tavernas next to Nicolas Bakery (which did the best pastries on Corfu imo).

I would definitely recommend hiring a car though if you base yourselves there. The beaches are pretty but small and shingle/pebble. It’s a great place to do boat trips though, which we did lots of.

IncognitoMam · 12/09/2023 22:55

Thanks @cherryassam we're only going for a week. I do fancy a boat trip. I'll definitely try that bakery 🧁☺️

It’s really lovely! Our favourite trip was one down the East Coast where we stopped in lots of little caves and coves for swims, saw dolphins and then stopped for a while on Kalami beach before heading back.

The lovely thing about north west Corfu is all the little bays with tavernas in them. Rent a little boat in Kassiopi and go exploring for a day or two. It’s really nice. September will be lovely too. Slightly less Kensington-on Sea than in August…. But still quite.

Ohhelpicantthinkofaname · 13/09/2023 07:39

It’s a nice place and one of the most popular in the island. The beaches are nice with clear water, but they’re stones rather than sand and the ones near the town were very busy when we were there.

there’s plenty of nice places to eat and the harbour area is pretty. We were there in 2020 when lots of people weren’t travelling abroad and it felt quite busy then in august, so imagine in more normal years it would be packed in high season.

there are other places on Corfu that I personally prefer, but as I said, it’s a nice places and plenty of people love it.

We always stay near Kalami Bay but often drive into Kassiopi for an evening as it has a nice atmosphere. Our favourite restaurant is Janis - it's very popular so we always book.

If you are exploring by boat or have a car Kalami Bay is a lovely place to have a beach day and the next bay over is Agni which is beautiful and has a fantastic restaurant called Toula's.

Hiring a boat from Kassiopi for snorkelling and stopping off at Agni for lunch is a great day out. The restaurant staff will guide your boat in and help you secure it.

Further afield we've enjoyed hiking down to the twin beaches at Porto Timoni and a day out in Paleokatritsa. Corfu Town is interesting to visit too.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 13/09/2023 08:03

Take water shoes with you as it makes the pebble beaches easier. My kids prefer pebble beaches to sandy ones after all our visits to Kalami over the years.

IncognitoMam · 13/09/2023 19:55

Thank you everyone for these great ideas. I've packed my sea shoes. I actually prefer swimming in our north sea but hopefully the sea will be cooler than when we were in Spain recently?
I love the idea of renting a boat.

It's gorgeously pretty but wow it's expensive to eat in the restaurants in the harbour

I found the water in Kassiopi to be quite cool when we were there. It’s stony and gets deep quite quickly so colder than the sea on sandy beaches. It is very clear though and quite a lot of fish to be seen if snorkelling.

Thanks for the heads up. We have an apartment so if it's too expensive can cook.

@Ohhelpicantthinkofaname that's good cooler is better for me.

We found the sea definitely cooler than Spain, eating out is reasonable, also recommend Janis although we ate in a different place every night and didn’t have a bad meal anywhere. There was an evening boat trip to Corfu Town which was good although a day trip there on the green bus is also recommended, the views are amazing! We even went to Albania for the day, which was a long day, but incredible.

nappiesandcontracts · 13/09/2023 22:54

Sorry to jump on your post OP but wondered if anyone had any hotel recommendations? We've been looking at North-East Corfu for next year

Proudmummy67 · 13/09/2023 23:15

We stayed in Dassia but got the bus to Kassiopi for the day. It was really pretty and there's a nice walk you can do round the cliff top with beautiful views out to see and the castle ruins. You'll have a great time!

I booked us in Janis for tonight. That was one place I did know about.

Apparently we're staying next to illusions bar and it has karaoke 😂 I'll probably have a go. DH hates karaoke.

Have a lovely time. Love Corfu, and the area around Kassiopi. Definitely go snorkelling in the little bays, the water is crystal clear. Yes to hiring a boat at least for one day, and also a car if you want to explore the island. Some lovely villages in the centre and the west is worth a visit.

mrsnjw · 14/09/2023 13:33

Booked corfu for next year. Staying at the Athina. Very excited

IncognitoMam · 14/09/2023 19:38

It's absolutely stunning here. The bus was a mini bus and the coast ride was gorgeous. Going back will probably be a coach though so more hair-raising.
We ate at Janis. It got packed. Staff were very good. We enjoyed our food and wine and have booked another night.
Our balcony has a stunning view of the bay.

Glad you like it. Have a great holiday. I'm back in Kalami in October and can't wait. I went to the North West of the island in the summer and although it was lovely it wasn't a patch on Kalami and Kassiopi. I believe you can get a bus from Kassiopi to Kalami quite easily.

IncognitoMam · 15/09/2023 06:45

Thanks I'll check out the times. Hope you have a fantastic time when you go.

Apparently the Corfu bus goes there? We just passed it on the boat.

Really loving it here. We're already booked for next year.
