Looking at booking a holiday to one of these islands in October. Never been to any. Any suggestions of places to avoid/ places to visit?

Anyone who has visited have any preference of one over the other.

We are travelling with a 7 and 10 year old who like swimming, water parks.

We recently went to a lovely hotel in Taurito, Gran Canaria. Lovely quiet respite, very pretty sea views and It was right next to a hotel after park.

We were in Las Americas , Tenerife at the end of last year and it was very buzzy. Lots of people watching and shopping. I suppose it depends on what you want from a holiday. They’re all likely to be very warm in October with Tenerife the warmest.

The best water park would be Siam Park in Tenerife. If it's high on the list, I'd say choose Tenerife just for that :)

I loved the north of Tenerife, stunningly beautiful, great walks. South not my thing!

Just come back from Playa del Ingles in Gran Canaria. Hated it. What a dump.

Playa de Los Pocillos in Lanzarote is lovely and very reasonably priced to eat and drink out. Very short airport transfer and Rancho Texas nearby (€5 in taxi) which is a fun day out - zoo and waterpark.

In Lanzarote some of the more resort-y towns are quite ugly and built up, but TBH if you have small kids who love water parks they may be your best bet. We had a lovely last-minute stay a few Christmases ago and the only places left to stay were a few cheap-ish generic resort apartments and one lovely but expensive villa in the centre of the island and I was honestly glad we spent the extra money on the latter. But like I said, resorts will probably meet your needs better albeit the island is pretty small so you could stay somewhere quiter and prettier and you wouldn't be far from anything.

I really like Puerto de Mogan in Gran Canaria. Both Cordial Mogan Playa and the Radisson Blu have heated pools which is important for October.

Its a pretty harbour town that doesn’t feel too ‘Brits abroad’, has nice restaurants, is pretty walkable.

You can go along the coast to Taurito where there is a water park, or even further along to Maspalomas where there is another Waterpark.

Tenerife and stop in Costa Adeje. Lots to do for kids and Siam park is amazing.

in Tenerife I prefer los cristianos
overall though I find Lanzarote nicer but don’t know about water parks - we usually stay in costa Teguise which is quiet

Tenerife is amazing. We stayed in the South, Costa Adeje; in a lovely hotel only a 5 minute walk to La Pinta beach which is beautiful. We went to both Aqualand and Siam park which were both less than 10 minutes from our hotel. Siam Park was rated best water park in the world on TripAdvisor for the 9th year. I already want to go back there!

Thank you all for the comments.
I think we’ll aim for Tenerife after looking at Siam water park. It looks amazing and my kids always do more swimming than anything else and are pretty brave on flumes.

I am thinking of hiring a car so we don’t have to stick to only the busy parts. Anyone know nice quiet towns/coves etc worth visiting.
