Neilson or resort with splash park?

As a family of 3 who want a relaxing holiday somewhere not hugely busy but in school holidays (hah) with activities for a 9 year old girl, would you choose a Neilson holiday (looking at Alana beachclub in Croatia) or a resort with kids club and a bit of a splash park/water slides (looking at The Royal Senses Resort & Spa Crete)- they're roughly the same price.
Adults want to do some level of exploring local area/days out and relaxing (not activities) child wants to make friends and be entertained.
We hate sunbed wars/pools of kid soup/busy restaurants/other areas of hotel and terrified of making the wrong choice and wishing we had stayed at home!

For what you want (relaxing and local exploring) I would say the splash park/slides option definitely.
