Nile Cruise anyone?

Hi

Looking for some advice, me and my partner along with his daughter and her bf are planning a once in a lifetime trip to Egypt. we have looked at hotels excursions etc and decided that was not for us so we have set our hearts on a Nile cruise.

I have been scouring the internet however nothing is coming in on budget (approx 2k each) apart from the new TUI packages however these operate from Luxor with no opportunity to go see the pyramids.

Anyone done a Nile cruise and could recommend something? we don't mind upping our budget for the right holiday. Thanks :-)

We've been twice, both tailor-made packages.

First time was 2-3 days in Cairo (Pyramids, Sphinx, Museum) , flight to Luxor to get the cruise that goes to Aswan & back,(**) then a few days in Luxor. All tours & excursions were included. That company seems to have disappeared.

Last year we did the same up to (**), but then had a private transfer to Aswan then a cruise on Lake Nasser that included Abu Simbel.
That was 5 flights, lots of transfers & plenty of opportunity for things to go wrong!

We used www.discoveregypt.co.uk & they were superb, everything went very smoothly. They do packages, but they can build precisely what you want & their prices are very reasonable. I think the only meals not included in the price were L&D in Cairo.

BTW, I DO NOT work for them !

We went on the Nile cruise. I don’t know why I went really, as I’m not interested in looking at old ruins. Every tour was early in the day, so we had to get up early for breakfast. Not my idea of a holiday either. Finally we both had a gastric upset, diarrhoea being the main problem.

We went on a Nile cruise years ago and it was amazing. Yes you get up early to avoid the heat but then retreat to the onboard pool for the afternoon. Venture into the towns in the evening. The people were lovely, Do Luxor by night as well as day, it is wonderfully atmospheric.
We didn't go on an expensive boat but did have an Egyptologist as tour guide who gave context to so much. We didn't travel on to the pyramids but I'm not sure we really missed out when I hear that McDonalds is so close.

Does it have to be a river cruiser ? I went on a two week tour of Egypt In My Youth with Travelbag Adventures and 3 nights were spent sailing from Aswan to Luxor on a felucca. It was the absolute highlight of the trip, so chilled and relaxing drifting along. We slept on the boat, the staff cooked every night in a camp kitchen they would build on the river banks. i don't know whether that sort of thing would be your bag but i found it a fab way to cover a lot of ground in a very unfamiliar country doing things i couldn't have arranged myself. I would absolutely do it again 20 years later.
