Where would you go? Dh and I are going to have 10 days away next Novembe/December. Dc aren’t coming, we want some sun, some culture and some relaxing. We have enjoyed our last few breaks away without the dc, taken in some local sights and done a few day tours etc and mixed the busy days up with some relaxing pool ones inbetween. No real budget in mind, just looking for any ideas - so far we have thought either Thailand or the Caribbean.
What would your choice be?

Oh, will be flying from a London airport, thought I’d put that in the OP!

If your thinking of Thailand what about Malaysia? It as everything your looking for, culture, sights plenty to see and do, lots of food options and I love KL as a city, but not the East coast (monsoon season), the west Penang or maybe one of the islands, it the start of the busiest season and its a little cooler in some places but still hot.

Thanks, I think that’s worth putting on the list! We never plan holidays, usually just choose where we want to go and then book it within about 10 minutes as it’s normally a last minute opportunity due to dh’s job so it feels weird that we might actively plan something properly. I don’t want to over plan and over commit to things though, I hate too much scheduled things, feels like a school trip!

Or what about Sri Lanka?

Again plenty to see and do with beaches, safaris (Yala maybe) tea plantations and at the moment good value due to exchange rate. Colombo the capital is worth a day or two as well. Plenty of different types of accommodation to choose from.

Caribbean. Going back this Nov.

Costa Rica might fit the bill

Kerala or Goa in India

Cape Town

Bali

We're going to Mexico for the first two weeks of December. We're doing a few beach days, some Mayan sites and a bit of nature. Flights to Cancun

Thailand is amazing in December we go every year, Jamaica is nice too.

TheChosenTwo · 09/08/2023 13:56

I think Mexico is out as I believe you have to fly via US and dh can’t get a visa.
I like Jamaica too but have been a lot so probably not there again.
i think the flight times to Bali are putting me off, we want sun and happy to fly long distance but equally the time differences can make a big impact if you’re just away for a few days.

Does anyone have any recommendations for Thai resorts? We do know a few people who live there (well split their time between there and here) so they may also be able to give some tips if we go ahead and book there.

We've done Sri Lanka and South Africa in December. Both amazing places to visit. Can also vouch for Malaysia as I live there ☺️ it's a bit cooler in December but still warm. Loads to see and do on the west coast and Penang is amazing. Melaka is nice for a day trip (about 2hr drive south of KL) or Ipoh which is 2hrs north and a nice drop off on the drive to Penang. Adding a photo of the sunset in Penang that I took last week

We flew direct to Mexico with Tui in July and going back next year.
What kind of thing do you like? I can recommend Thai resorts
