Talk to me about cruises

We're a couple in our late 50s/60 and considering a cruise but there are so many when you start looking! So, what's the best cruise you've been on? Who did you book with and where did you go? We definitely don't want something huge or the really top end of the budget (well we would be can't afford it) so considering something a little smaller (even a river cruise). What else should we consider when booking as even the packages can be a little confusing? Thank you.

The only ship I’d say to avoid is the Norwegian Epic

A bit of a marmite ship, I'd say - we loved it! The bathroom set up didn't bother us at all (although I can understand why some wouldn't like it), and the facilities such as the spa, and the bar/sunbathing area at the back of the ship are great. We've sailed on her 3 times. While I think there are better ships on the NCL fleet, if Epic was doing an itinerary I wanted, I would sail again on her in a heart beat.

That’s interesting @budgiegirl and I’m glad you enjoyed your cruises. I’m a very conservative toilet person and like the noise of the shower which I can jump in it afterwards with nice smelling gel . A pongy cabin is no fun. Also having the main door effectively …too much for me.
Some people on my last cruise (MSC) were really disappointed with the noise between cabins whereas I didn’t find it too annoying ( although walks seem thinner than others). I suppose we all have different deal breakers. I think cruisers do like to compare ( moan) about sometimes even though I think first time cruisers are genuinely impressed regardless of the offer.

Bumping this thread in the hope someone knows. And hopefully I’m allowed to ask this.

Lots of talk on Cruise Critic Celebrity board about a SM site that they are not allowed to name re some of recent discussions about Celebrity cutbacks. Anyone know what the SM may be? As I would like to take a look. TIA

Probably the Facebook page called Celebrity Cruises Captain's Club. They discuss largely the same stuff as on CC but it is very active.

Ahh thank you! @Chewbecca

I haven’t got FB but I know from CC roll call that a lot are on FB instead!
