Where to go on holiday?

We're thinking of going somewhere for a week in August, preferably max 4 hour flight from Scotland, coastal and warm. We've previously been to Corfu and Madeira, both of which we loved.

Main issue is DH likes to avoid the big touristy resorts, benidorm, salou etc would be his nightmare. I'm happy to avoid big resorts but still want to be somewhere with plenty to do, somewhere I can easily buy nappies and baby food if needed and good public transport.

Looking at all the travel websites I'm struggling to find somewhere quiet enough for DH but lively enough for me 😂 any suggestions?

Corsica or San Sebastián

Corsica or San Sebastián

Both look lovely but no direct flights from Scotland unfortunately

Which airport do you need? You could look at all of the departing flights at that airport and go down the list of options. This is also helpful if you have a small child, because you can handpick places with a convenient flight time!

Croatia

It would be Aberdeen, Glasgow or Edinburgh. Just hoping that someone will have a suggestion of a resort I haven't thought of, I've looked at what flights are available and most seem to be near big tourist resorts

Agios Nikoklaos, Crete?

It's pretty much got everything there but certainly not tacky.

I think any of the warmer coastal destinations in Europe will be very busy in August. Doesn't matter which one you choose, it is the time of the year isn't it?

Anyway, as a pp said, look at the destinations from your airports and select from there. In Summer most of the options are going to be near popular resorts, that's the market!

If you could go outside the school holiday season i.e. early September the resorts quieten down and can be very pleasant, and a bit cooler too.

But if not, looking at Glasgow departures I would go to Girona and then down to either Tossa de Mar or Lloret de Mar. Girona itself is a great spot to stay a few nights too, but it's not on the coast. You can get to Barcelona from that area too if you feel like it.

Bon voyage.

August is obviously super peak anywhere so you won't avoid crowds. But somewhere like Santo Tomas in Minorca might suit. It's very family oriented. Lovely beaches. And Minorca is a pretty island less full on than Ibiza or Mallorca. Flights shouldn't be a problem and there's no long transfers.

You mention a baby, could you go in September? Then everyone else (nearly all of Europe) will be back at school and all the resorts will be quieter.

Stay in Palma. It's lovely but you can get to nice places to visit during the week.

Have been to Tossa de Mar. Really enjoyed it and fulfills your criteria.
