Best to book a return flight or two separates

Flying with Ryanair for a weekend away.
I dont think the price of tickets changes if you buy a return. But I knwo if I miss the first flight, that cancels the return as well automatically (happened to my sister and friend), so thought may be safer to buy a ticket to go and then after a return one. Are there any advantages od a return flights on a budget airline?

Prices tend to be higher nearer to departure date so in your case I would buy a return ticket.

Im buyng both now, just separately or together, if that makes sense.

Fine to buy separately. I’ve often booked one way with one airline and the return with another, dependent on price (eg easyJet one way, Ryanair back).

Just make sure you have proof of both as border officials don’t like one-way tickets without a return.

depends where and when you’re going OP, but can you find out the prices and more importantly the availability of the return flight if you were travelling next week , just to get an idea.

The flights have both good availability for out bound and inbound. I would prefer to book both now not to have to see a huge increase later, just wondered if there are any benefits of booking a return now, or an outbound flight and inbound separately to not lone money on inbound if I cant make the out bound for some reasons. Flying from Scotland to Ireland.

I don't think you technically can buy a return flight on Ryanair - it's still two single flights which are priced separately even if you buy them both in one transaction, so a no show on one flight has no bearing on the second flight. The issue about the return flight being cancelled if you don't show up for the first flight applies mainly to traditional airlines (BA etc) where they do price return flights as (sometimes) being cheaper than two singles, and so a no-show on the first leg would automatically cancel the second leg.

That's not entirely correct. When my dss partner worked in Eastern Europe she flew to meet him a number of times with Ryanair and Wizzair and had it happened twice that the return flight was invalidated if the first leg was not travelled. The tickets were so cheap then she didn't mind buying another, but she did get caught out on the airport the first time round when they didn't let her on the flight as she didn't fly in on her reservation abd get a different date.

If you buy them separately and they cancel your flight out then you could be left with only a flight home that you might not be able to get your money back on if you can't find another flight to get out there.

Ryanair don't cancel the return leg on a return if you don't use the outbound. Your return remains valid. Just did this on Monday! Had to change airports so booked another flight out with easyJet and returned on original Ryanair ticket.

Of course, we forfeited the cost of outbound as it was £100 to change so cheaper to just buy another and be a "no show" for Ryanair.

It’s fine to buy separately. I did this recently. One relatively small disadvantage is I had to enter passport details etc twice as opposed to once. And I got twice as many reminder emails. There was no saving a return ticket, a bit like you I was able to commit to one way sooner than I was the other way.

Book one way flight. Example on 12 book return flight coming back 3 weeks after from my departure^^
