i need to book some flights to ireland for a weekend away and was wondering if anyone could tell me when the best time to book is? should i book in advance or wait till nearer the time? will the price change drastically if i wait longer? (obviously i run the risk of not getting 10 seats if i wait too long)

Hi
I have often booked groups and it totally varies. If you book early you could pay more but its relative as you know you have the tickets. If you need more than one or two tickets I would suggest doing it sooner rather than later. As you know these sorts of companies make their money on the last minute bookings so its the risk. Guess it depends on the cost in the first place? Are you on their mailing list already for offers? Ryanair are cheap but dont forget one of their clear statements is 'we dont do customer service'. Good luck.

Keep an eye on the flights but I'd book sooner rather than later. Depends where you're flying from, there might be more options than just Ryanair or Easyjet. Astrohaus (sp) fly from the NW I think.

ive have narrowed it down to easyjet- edinburgh to belfast intl or flybe-edinburgh to belfast city. easy jet is slightly cheeper than flybe so we were going to go with them. i think i will need to get everyone organized and just get it booked. its going to cost about £60 return and will be a lot cheeper than minibus hire/ferry/fuel etc.

As early as you can with a company like easyjet.

We booked flights Liverpool-Geneva in mid Jan at £50 per head; within 3 weeks they were £100 per head.

WendyWeber · 22/02/2008 21:55

Aha - have just rechecked and in fact they have now gone down again slightly - still £90 per head though.

This is for 2nd week in April btw.

olsmum · 22/02/2008 21:59

ive just checked the flights i had in mind aswell! and they are still about the same (for the end of may). £64ish.

When the schools are on holiday?

WendyWeber · 22/02/2008 22:07

Have you gone through the booking process, olsmum? They also charge £3.99 each way per checked bag, and make a charge for paying with a credit card (I forget how much that is)

If you'll all only have cabin baggage it's not so bad

olsmum · 22/02/2008 22:19

its the 23rd to 25th may, my SIL to-be's hen do (also first time for me away from dd for!) i wont be taking a suitcase but prob more than they would allow in cabin. crikey- that will all add up, maybe i should phone them tomorrow. is it worth asking for a discount?

easyjet actually have a generous cabin allowance of 20kg - but only in a normal small bag (I'm tempted to take a backpack full of kitchen weights when we go just to get my money's worth, as it's really hard to fit 20kg in a small bag when you can't get fluids through security )

What you could do is share suitcases - for 3 days, 10 of you could probably get by with 3?

Also, instead of Fri-Sun could you do Thu-Sat? That would be a lot cheaper.

olsmum · 22/02/2008 22:46

it needs to be friday until sunday unfortunatly, work commitments etc. great idea about sharing suitcases, i probably wouldnt have thought of that! (i dont always have a lot of common sense!) we wont all be able to as there are people coming from all over the place and will prob meet at airport but it will at least save me a bit of money if i share with future sil and someone else

Re The sharing suitcases.
Check it will work, I'm pretty sure that with Ryan Air we could either book suitcases for all 4 of us or none of us. We ended up booking our trip as 2 bookings in the end to get round it.
